– A.M.Best Ratings

A.M. Best reports the financial strength of insurance companies across the world with ratings issued to more than 3,500 companies in over 90 countries. For more than 100 years, A.M.Best has been the trusted source for ratings amongst consumers.

What’s the rating scale of A.M.Best?

Let’s look at what ratings are assigned to insurers and what those ratings mean.

A++ and A+ Assigned to companies with a superior ability to meet their future insurance obligations

A and A-  Assigned to companies with an excellent ability to meet their future insurance obligations.

B++ and B+ Assigned to companies with a good ability to meet their future insurance obligations.

Any rating below B+ (from B to D) means that the insurance company has a fair to poor ability in meeting its contractual obligations. If you plan to buy from an insurer with a rating below B+, you should be prepared for the worst in future.

In 2018, A.M.Best assigned a Financial Strength Rating (FSR) of “A+” to the Progressive Group which means that the insurer has a superior ability to meet its future obligations.

– Moody’s Ratings

Moody’s Corporation is a leading business and financial services company with an exclusive focus on credit ratings through its subsidiary, Moody’s Investor Services.

The rating agent focuses on both short-term and long-term ability of companies to meet their financial obligations. For the purpose of this guide, we would look at the rating scale of their long-term obligations only.

Aaa: Assigned to companies which are of the highest quality where the risk involved in minimum

Aa: Assigned to companies which are considered high-quality with a low-level of credit risk

A: Assigned to companies which are upper-medium-grade with a low-level of credit risk

Baa: Assigned to companies of the medium-grade with a moderate level of credit risk

Ratings beyond Baa (from Ba to C) mean that there’s a high level of credit risk involved. Usually, you should stay away from companies which are assigned Caa, Ca, or C as these companies are either in default or are very close to a default.

Please note that Moody’s assigns numerical modifiers (1, 2, & 3) to all the rating classifications to indicate the ranking for the generic categories, wherein 1 is the highest.

Better known as S&P, Standard and Poor’s is a well-known index provider which also offers credit rating for investments, companies, and countries.

AAA: Assigned to companies whose capacity to meet its financial obligations is extremely strong

AA: Assigned to companies whose capacity to meet its financial obligations is very strong

A: Assigned to companies whose capacity to meet its financial obligations is strong, however, it’s more prone to be affected by changes in the economic environment than the higher ratings

BBB: Assigned to companies who have an adequate capacity to meet its obligations

BB, B, CCC, CC, and C: These ratings signify that the obligations might be subject to significant speculations if the economic condition changes drastically, and the level of protection is quite low

Registered as a non-profit organization, Better Business Bureau (BBB) aims to promote ethical business practices and enhance trust in the marketplace. BBB uses a specific criteria to rate businesses on their performance and reliability.

To rate these businesses, BBB assigns ratings in the range of A+ (highest) to F (lowest). Some companies are also assigned a No Rating (NR) because of lack of information or a pending review.

Unlike other ratings agencies, BBB focuses on consumer complaint data to rate a business because of which they use factors like complaint volume, unanswered complaints, unresolved complaints, and delayed complaint resolution to calculate their rating.

BBB rated Progressive an A- for its failure to respond to two consumer complaints.

– Consumer Reports

Another famous nonprofit entity that helps consumers make an informed decision, Consumer Reports, conducts surveys to understand the satisfaction level of consumers with the claims process of different providers.

During the Consumer Reports’ 2017 Winter Survey, around 23,609 respondents were asked questions regarding their satisfaction level on several factors including – ease of reaching an agent, simplicity of the process, promptness of response, damage amount, and much more.

Progressive scored an 84 out of the 100-point scale which indicates that consumers were highly satisfied with their claims process. For each of those factors, consumers rated Progressive ‘very good’.

How exactly does Progressive check your driving behavior?

Under their Snapshot program, Progressive tracks your driving pattern through a mobile app or a plug-in device. After installing either, you need to drive for six months during which your braking habits, speed limits, mileage driven, etc. are tracked.

Interestingly, Progressive keeps their website simple by avoiding any sliders or in-your-face banners that push products. They also want to educate customers through a separate section, Progressive Answers, which includes in-depth guides on insurance.

If their website has all the information, should you download their mobile app?

Progressive released its first app for car insurance in 2010 and has since made updates to the original app about two times per year. Since then, it has also developed the heralded SnapShot device that plugs into a vehicle’s OBD-II port to gather information about driving habits with the intention of lowering insurance costs for consumers. The Progressive Mobile app, however, is in no way related to its more famous relative.

What it can’t do:

Although the app will get you a quote, you will still need to go online to buy the insurance.

Progressive has designed their app specifically to support auto insurance customers although the company does cover other types of vehicles such as motorcycles and RVs. Non-auto insurance coverage cannot be accessed from the app, although that is a feature being considered.

The app is only for individual policyholders.

Accounts with commercial auto coverage will still need to access the website for information and to obtain ID cards, make payments, etc. Look for a future development on this front, but very likely it will be its own unique app.

Some insurance apps covering vehicles offer local searches for gas, restaurants or shops. This feature is not available on the Progressive app, but has been requested by a large number of reviewers. Progressive has been responsive to its reviewers request, so this is a feature that may be under development.

Probably the biggest disappointment with the app is that it has no interactivity with the popular SnapShot program at Progressive.

Other mobile insurance apps are beginning to feature components in their app to track driving habits (like MetroMile), so it is not unreasonable to expect Progressive to make a move in the future to develop some interactivity such as being able to call up the statistics and patterns that SnapShot produces. SnapShot has been in the forefront of quantifying safe driving practices and rewarding them, but Progressive seems to be behind the curve in giving drivers access to the information.

  1. Progressive “customer service” reps on the 800 number for NYS car insurance are extremely rude!

    We never had a claim with them but I went online to put the insurance in my name instead of my husband’s for a better rate.

    The quote was $150 less a year. I was told to call the 800 number to complete the process.

    The woman I talked to told me the rate would double and explained she found 3 accidents in the last 3 years for my name. This was completely false.

    She continued to question me like a criminal. I told her she must have me mistaken for someone else.

    She told me the info was on LexisNexis.

    I did not continue with the new policy.

    I called LexisNexis and was told I needed to send a letter with a copy of my driver’s license.

    They in turn sent me a letter back stating they had NO information on me!

    Another time I bought a new car, the dealer called Progressive to switch the policy.

    He handed me the phone and the female rep asked me the strangest questions.

    She kept questioning if another driver other than my husband would be driving my car.

    I said no we are empty nesters.

    She continued to harass me when my dealer took the phone back and told her this was the most ridiculous thing he ever heard and eventually forced her to do her job!

    I am looking for a different insurance company.

    We both have 820+ credit ratings and no claims for the past 10 years. It is so stressful to be treated this way.

  2. Progressive Insurance completely jerked me around on a recent claim.

    After I paid my deductible ($1,000) and used their preferred provider near where I live, only the cosmetic damage was corrected from my accident, not the under-body damage that was making my car unsafe to drive.

    I didn’t care about the scratch on my car, I cared about the functionality of my car. After this, my car was at the dealership where I bought it, and they communicated to Progressive what work needed to be done.

    Progressive sent out a local rep (Josh Rains and Steve) several times who approved of the bodywork and said they would cover it under the initial claim.

    After all the work was complete, Progressive said that they wouldn’t cover the work and that there was nothing I could do about it. I then had to pay $1,700 (three weeks after paying $1,000) to get my vehicle back.

    I haven’t had my car in 5+ weeks and have invested almost $3,000 into it. I felt that they tricked me because I don’t know a lot about cars or how to file an insurance claim.

    I will be switching providers after being with their company for almost two years now. I would rather pay more and support a company that will support me.

  3. My claim had error after error in their favor which took one day short of 3 months to resolve. I was told repeatedly that an agent would get ahold of me for different issues and then a week or two would go by. [Redacted] out of office for a week around Thanksgiving, [Redacted] get new job internally and stops answering my calls or returning voicemails, [Redacted] is supposed to contact [Redacted] about dropping the third comp and after 2 weeks go by instead calls me on Christmas Eve to say how fair it was. What person or company treats its customers like that after 10 years.

    1. They used 90,000 as cars mileage. Actual mileage was 79,000. No attempt was made to get actual mileage, no call made to me.

    2. They admittedly skipped doing the quality assessment of car.

    3. Denied every comp I sent in saying they were too far away. Their comps (cars they use to establish the value of your car) were two that were nearly 300 miles south of me in Utahs southern desert around Moab.

    4. Used a comp from a no haggle car lot, then haggled $1000 off the price it actually sold for.

    That comp had all its GT badging removed and giant plastic skull and crossbones glued in their place. Inside where my DVD player had been, was another giant plastic one. Despite that, they felt at nearly 110,000 miles it was a fair representation of the average Mustang GT on the market.

    On day 77 (I knew this because their agent had the nerve to bring up how long this case was taking and mention it had been 77 days I had spent trying to get them to do what they should have done day one, Their job!) I had to threaten to get a lawyer in order for them to actually use the price the car sold for instead of their made up price 1000 dollars lower.

    I had the car appraised during this process by 2 companies to see if I was being treated fairly. One came back saying it could have sold for around 20-25k. The other I used a company that works for insurance companies. They came back saying 18k. My insurance company did one of their own and said $7400. That is $1000 less than the beat up, plastic skull and crossbones car with 40,000 more miles on it sold for in the middle of a desert.

    My car had been meticulously modified and supercharged. The build sheet reflected over $23,000 (just parts no labor) in pre-tax modifications alone. They estimated the value of all those parts to be $1710, so if you have this company and carry extra coverage for aftermarket parts you are probably in for another long fight on top of the one I just described after they depreciate all those parts MORE than 90%.

    How far from fair is their 7400 they were going to try and say was the value of that car (that won best in show and best in class at multiple car shows)?

    That is around what I sold the TOTALLED car for. To literally the first guy who saw it, the tow driver who towed it out of progressives impound yard.

    When we filed a claim through Progressive they treated us like criminals. Instead of trying to help, they work very hard to find reasons not to cover you.

    The adjuster I spoke with, [Redacted], actually told me that the rider is at fault if he rides into a ditch to keep from hitting a deer. He said that if you hit the deer you are not at fault but if you swerve and miss the deer but wreck the bike in a ditch, you are at fault. That says to me that in order to get coverage you have you go head-on with deer or another vehicle!

    Do they want people to die? I guess they spend so much money paying for their expensive commercials and that they can’t take care of their customers.

  5. Getting a quote was easy. Getting them to call me back and waiting on hold to speak to someone is impossible. And they said that I have to for a home policy. I would rather pay more and be able to reach someone.

  7. So I contacted Progressive last month to tell them to cancel my banking information and extend my due date 3days because I would not be paid until the 28th via chat. They stated they could do both of these things but I would lose my auto-pay discount. I was sad but this was okay with me and better than going negative. She proceeds to tell me once I get my new card that I can call back and add my new banking information and that my due date has been changed to the 1st. Great! Thanks for the info! Only my account went negative because the women DID NOT remove my account info as requested. Also a $60 overdraft fee AND $3 a day fee until paid. What was -$118 is now -$216.99 and so obviously I call them. I spoke with a gentlemen who referred me to his supervisor who PROMISED me if I specifically requested that my banking info be removed then they would refund me the negative amount in my account because it would be an error on their behalf and they will be more than willing to refund this to me and “make it right” with me. I was supposed to receive a call back within 48hrs regarding the chat and it’s been about a week. SO I CALL BACK AGAIN and they’re now trying to tell me there was NO error on their end and they WILL NOT refund me this money or correct this issue because I agreed to call back with my new banking information which is 100% UNTRUE! I said THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION and that I would update it myself on the app!! So I’m now not only -$216.99 in an account because of them BUT my insurance is due again in the amount of $206. Which SOMEHOW went up almost $100 when I haven’t had any tickets, no nothing! SERIOUSLY?! WORST CAR INSURANCE COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH!!

  8. I have been dealing with this company for 5 years and my parents have since the 80s. I have several friends who have dealt with this joke of a company for various amounts of years, and based on what happens when a claim is made even though it is a drop in the bucket to this company they have lost well over 200 costumers in my area alone. This has went on too long… 2 claims with them the one going back 3 years that is still waiting… but they still send things in the mail wanting me to switch to progressive… I think not. I hope at least 1 person reads one of these posts and sees how this company works and stays away from this company and that every one of them tell at least 2 to read it and they tell at least 2 it wouldn’t take much at that rate for people to find a real insurance company…

  9. My son had Progressive insurance. He had auto payments set up with his bank. Sadly my son passed away. He was 23. I am his mother. After the funeral I went through the business of closing his bank account. As you can imagine I was not thinking clearly. I did not realize about the auto pay, therefore I didn’t notify the insurance company. They tried to debit the account unsuccessful for 2 or 3 months. I was unaware of this. They finally called my home. I apologized for not contacting them and explained the my son had died. The woman I was speaking with told me she found it hard to believe that he was dead. Pretty much called me a liar. I was shocked to say the least. She then very rudely asked if I had a death certificate. I told her yes when one of your children die the state will give you one for free. Still being very rude asked that I fax it to her ,which I did. She did not have the courtesy to call me back to offer her condolences or an apology. I have and will continue tell everyone I met to steer clear of Progressive Insurance! That female agent of progressive insurance rudeness completely devastated me as I was still very fresh in my grief. I would not do business with anyone that hateful. They should change their name to Aggressive or offensive insurance!

  10. All these people above are absolutely right – Progressive has the worst customer care and rudest adjusters. I have been with them for 15 years, have Emerald status and thought that meant something until I had to file a claim. I have a BMW and these cheap [redacted] won’t replace the bumper with an OEM bumper. They want to put some cheap Chinese parts, telling me that the parts are equal. The difference is $200 between the bumper that I want and the once they want to pay for and they won’t pay it. Not to mention they treated me horribly on the phone, barely returned my calls and haggled with my mechanic over his hourly rates. After I told them I am very disappointed with their service and I won’t renew with them they said almost with relief: this is your right, do as you please. They also told me I was stuck with the adjuster on the claim when I asked for a new adjuster due to her rude demeanour. Who tells this to a 15-year loyal customer who has paid them over $30K in premiums over the years. Don’t know how they are so big with such horrible customer care. Don’t use them. They are cheap, relentless and do not care about their customers, even the ones that have been with them over a decade.

  11. We had commercial insurance policy with United Financial Casualty Company (Progressive) for more than 1 year. Always paid in time and in advance. All was good until accident happened. One of our truck collided in another truck due front tire blow out. We reported about this accident to Progressive. We have declarations page signed by Progressive confirms coverage for that truck. Accident happened May 22, 2017 and declarations page stated we have coverage for that truck effective May 18,2017. Then Progressive started argue that changed to policy was did by agent after accident. We informed their agent in time , two times May 16 and May 18 about that truck and agent told that everything ok. Progressive stated that truck was added after accident, but we have declarations page stated coverage for that truck effective May 18. And Progressive charged us regarding that declarations page and that effective date in declarations page – May 18, 2017.
    For now, Progressive “investigate” our claim for 5 months and looking for any reason don’t to pay for our claim.

  12. I wouldn’t advise anyone to use Progressive. They don’t have integrity and will blame others to get out of paying a claim. I was working on school addition hauling rock to the site with my semi and belly dump and made a right hand turn ( using my turn signal) into the school parking lot when a lady driving a small car attempted to pass me. She actually drove on the sidewalk because she was in a hurry. She told the cop what happened and that it was her fault which she was ticketed for. The wreck ripped the bumper off my semi which was minimal to the damage to her car even tho I hit her at less then 5 miles per hour. Progressive said the accident was 50% my fault. I didn’t know it was legal to pass on the sidewalk. It took my insurance company 7 months to finely collect.

  13. Progressive Insurance committed insurance fraud which greatly impacted my life. They refused to properly investigate into an accident by having someone unqualified see over the claim who just pretty much denied it as that’s what they do. The accident their client caused totaled my car, put me in bed for two months due to the pain, forced me to drop out of school (I couldn’t return due to the fact it wasn’t affordable as I had to drop out with grants meaning they have to be paid back and I may no longer get grants), and had to move to another state which means school was even more of a problem as I was now an out-of-state resident in another state. Thank you federal government for showing me that as long as you have money i this country you do not have to abide by the law. I would also like to thank the [Redacted] police officers involved since their judgment was the main cause for me not being able to obtain a lawyer the way they listed me first in the report (FYI – In the state of Illinois the person listed first, even when no fault is given, is looked at as who the police think is at fault) like the typical lazy [Redacted] they are.

  15. Worst insurance ever! I have had issues with them since day one, and they are way way overpriced! They sent me snapshot device and I keep getting emails saying is it’s not plugged in when it has been for two weeks. I’m sure it’s just an excuse to not give me my discount in the end.

    • Progressive sent me a SNAPSHOT to plug in my new Hybrid. It shows erratic braking 70 odd times etc etc. I hardly drive and have been driving accident and ticket free for over 50 years. Ouch my rates went up….WHY? Returned it and cancelled the policy.

  16. Our new car recently got rear-ended and is now totaled. Progressive is coming back with a value for our car that’s $3,000 below what Kelly Blue book recommend as the retail value of our car. They have their own system of calculating the value of the car. The way that they do this is by pulling 4 listed retail value of the car and then subtracted milage and a “projected sold adjustment” amount (haggle amount from negotiation to deduct, not sure how they come up with this value) from the listed retail value. The four car that they provided, one was high, one was middle, and two was way below value. When I try to call the dealerships to confirm these car, three out of the four were not in their inventory and if they were, they were sold long before our accident. I’m not sure how to handle this right now, we need a new car but I hate to give in and let them cheat us.

    This has been a terrible experience. We expect to negotiate with the other driver insurance for a fair price on our car because he was at fault. I did not think I would have to deal with my own insurance company that’s supposed to have our best interest.

    We are definitely never going to use progress again for our house or car. If anything should happen to our house, I have already got a taste of how they will treat us.

    • Same problem only my car was stolen in front of my house between 3and 8am.They asked me did leave the keys in the car, did i leave the door unlocked. After making a police report and giving them the report number and notify the finance company. They sent me paper work to fill out. Instead I drove the 20 miles to get a full understanding why is my last oil change have to do with this. You know some people do this went the motor is gone. Than they asked me who took me to the police station, give them his name and phone number. The settlement is 4000.00 less than the surrounding area. Not going to accept that amount because i still have a balance of 4000.00

Even though i had the right of way and started to break when i saw her pulling into the intersection. So this means whoever has this insurance will have to assume some percentage of fault..this is b/s

  18. I tried to just get a quote for homeowner’s insurance on a doublewide trailer that I was getting ready to purchase. I got disconnected during the phone call and when I called back, the new agent I spoke to found the quote that I had started. Not a problem so far. Then the agent started claiming that I answered questions that I had not yet answered. He said that I told the previous agent that I already purchased the home in February and that I wanted to insure the home for $66,000. I had not been asked any of these questions yet and when I explained that to the agent, he replied with “well sir, the conversations are recorded”, as if to say I was changing my answers and lying. In fact, I told the first agent that we were closing on the home in mid May. What a bunch of idiots! Don’t waste your time calling them unless you like getting talked to like you’re a criminal. PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE SUCKS ROYALLY!

  21. To add to a previous review, today we drop our car off at the repair shop and I’m taken to the rental car place. I’m given a Nissan Sentra, which is what Progressive has approved. I have a 2014 Malibu LTZ, this is in no way even close to being equivalent to our car. Turns out, Progressive says that they are only obligated to provide us with “transportation”, not equivalent to what we have. This accident was caused by their customer, we are by no means responsible and we have to be inconvenienced even more. This is not our first accident, in fact this is # 5 in the last year, none of which have been our fault! We have dealt with many insurance companies, a few no name companies that we never even heard of before. No one has been this difficult to deal with. If this was my insurance company, I would drop them and go find another.

  22. My wife has just had a similar experience late September with Progressive not wanting to pay a legitimate claim timely. Their customer was declared at fault by the Investigating Officer.
    I don’t know if Progressive is the whole problem or the lack of responsible oversight of Insurance companies being the real problem that these mentioned situations are allowed to exist.

  23. Our car ( which we just bought and we hadn’t made one payment on) was hit by their client. They made us come to them for an appraisal. My husband had over slept that morning and they made him wait an additional 45 min to get appraised. I’m sure its because we refused to let them repair our car at their facility. Which would only save them money. I’m sorry, but WE did not ask for this to happen and I feel that progressive insurance should come to us! Thanks Progressive for inconveniencing us even more. We will be sure to spread the word! Poor customer service for the victims of their clients bad driving.

The young lady that hit her car as Progressive Ins. The adjuster act like it was her fault, she wasn’t even in the car. She has a brand new car 2015 Progressive wont’s to put filler and a skin over the door. If that’s the best Progressive can do they need to shut the doors and take Flo with them !!!

  25. I was supposedly a “platinum member” and near the “diamond member” level. I was with them for exactly five years, never missed a payment, and the only way I was rewarded was increased rates. I have no tickets, no claims, a squeaky clean driving record. I was told my rates were high because I had a blazer and those vehicles didn’t have a high safety rating. So I purchased another vehicle and was told (by Progressive themselves) it had a good safety rating, then 6 months later at my renewal, my rates continued to increase to the point were I was paying almost exactly the same for minimal coverage as I was for full coverage only a year and a half earlier. When I asked, they told me because claims had increased in the past six months. Really? There were more claims in the summer than winter in the state of Michigan?! What a joke. In addition, when I first started my policy I paid two months up front which is standard when you pay month to month. I had them exactly five years to the day, never missed a payment as I had automatic deductions from my account. So where is that extra payment I made?! They told me I had no reimbursement coming. I guess that extra initial payment I made disappeared into thin air. They had no explanation for where it went. I guess if they pocket this money every time a person cancels their insurance, they can afford to continue running their cheesy commercials at prime time.

  26. A couple of weeks ago my husband was driving my car when it was hit by a driver insured by Progressive. The accident took place on a Friday and my husband did not get the other driver’s insurance info until we got the police report the following Monday. I think he tried calling on Tuesday, and then again Wednesday. That Wednesday he got a message that the adjuster handling the claim was out. It turns out they were out for a week, and apparently no one was covering for her! He only just spoke to someone yesterday! In the meantime we have been working through our insurance, which has been incredibly responsive, unlike the Progressive agent.

    • We were rear-ended by a progressive client, no fault of ours. My wife was injured in the accident. Minnesota being a no-fault state, our insurance company had to pay the first $20’000 of medical costs, which they did. It has now been a three year battle with mounting medical bills. We have now had to file a law suit with the hope now we will be able to get our bills paid. Progressive is happy to take their clients money but does not pay claims. They are a terrible company. Beware.

My car was stolen from my driveway and found a week later with damage to window locks and ignition, now Progressive is holding us responsible for the cost of damages, I DON’T GET IT WE pay AT FULL COVERAGE ON TIME FOR YEARS NOW AND THE ONE FIRST TIME WE NEED THEIR HELP THEY TURN THEIR BACK ON US!!!   28. Many people on this site talk about Progressive as being a scam, and they are correct. My wife warned me against buying cheap insurance and she was right. We have been battling with this insurance company for a month now- with no end in sight- over a simple traffic accident. In reading online comments, some lawyers believe that insurance companies intentionally draw the process out to avoid paying settlements; that should be the Progressive insurance slogan. The claims adjusters are rude and and bemoan how much of an “inconvenience” it is if I call them, while completely overlooking my “inconvenience” of being without a car for a month.

  29. Progressive is a scam. I had.this insurance for many years and had no accidents or tickets for the last 3.yrs and my insurance had gone down every 6.months for all that time. I was supposedly a “platinum member ” when they did not renew my policy due to “excess use of roadside assitance “. Thank you progressive, I got a much better rate with geico and they don’t mind when we lock our keys in the car.

  30. I have been a victim of progressive as well. I bought a policy from that company , I never missed a payment . I had my house and dog under another policy. They canceled my insurance but my money was still being taken from the bank account. Their answer was they did not know we had a dog . Lies lies lies. About 5 years ago I was hurt by a driver who had no insurance. My life changed that day. I have provided this insurance with everything they need but for some reason the company has decided to defend the guy without insurance. Now I am their customer, they chose to put me through the wringer by discriminating against me. I have a lot of bills , my mom has cancer and I am supposed to help but I can’t. This violation and breach of contract. I decide to have a petition against the company because if they lose a million customers than they would change their policy. We will get a million people to sign our petition. It’s on moveon.org , please sign and share . I have had many surgeries and more to go because of the pain and hardware .

  31. I have progressive, Recently my car was vandalized. 2014 Nissan Altima its been 30 days since I open the claim. I have worked with over 4 people on this claim today is the 31st day on the claim, my car has had nothing done to it. I have been treated like crap. The only thing they have done has been give me a rental witch today they said it expires and I need to return it, My car is no where near done or ready to get it back, The agent that I am working with [Redacted] has been rude I asked him why I needed to give him so many documents he basically said that people that have their car vandalize like my case usually do it to claim fraud. Makes no sense because I am not asking for money I am asking for my new car to get fixed my new car was fine until that night. I asked him whats taking so long? He stated that he is short staff he is the only one working for 3 or 4 states and that he will get to my claim when he gets to and I pretty much just have to deal with it in a really rude way. I send him an email explaining my feelings to him never heard back from him. Its has been a nightmare working with him and progressive It makes me sick to my stomach. They don’t care. The biggest regret was getting this insurance please people shop smart.

  32. I had insurance with progressive for 6 months and i paid the full payment and after a couple of months they said i had to pay more because after i didn’t provide prove of my previous insurance
    which i did before joining and they cancel my insurance without my knowledge. I asked progressive to reinstate my insurance which i paid in-full they refused spoke one of the manager she was very rude to me i told her that i am going write a review she didn’t care. In any circumstance i wouldn’t recommend this insurance to anyone they are a bunch of thieves.

  33. We have had RV coverage on my RV since 2013. We hit a pot hole in the road which damaged our exhaust system causing damage to 2 tires as well. I wasn’t even sure insurance would cover but gave it a try. The adjuster was very prompt in calling us right away and handling the claim in a professional and courteous manner. We were reimbursed (except for $125 deductible) for the replacement of both tires, new exhaust system, plus what we had to pay roadside assistance. The premiums we pay once a year a very reasonable as well. I would recommend Progressive to all my RV friends.

  34. So I thought I had good insurance. UNTIL I got into a accident. Progressive didn’t even want to fight one ounce for me. I had a 99 Honda accord and the other driver was a 2013 Mercedes. The Mercedes hit me head on on the side of my car after taking a red light. They told me their job was to protect their client from exposure. First I was told they were going to negotiate 80/20. 80% my fault and 20% the other drivers. Five minute later the agent calls me back say after reviewing Google maps the street was really narrow even though the street was 3 lane street both directions. The bumper popped of the corners and the license plate fell off on the Mercedes. My car is not drivable anymore. I’m left w/o a car while the other driver is walking away with up to $10,000. SOME INSURANCE COMPANY.

  35. I have jet ski and trailer coverage with Progressive. As I was towing the jet ski from the boat ramp, the jet ski trailer broke in half. Progressive is telling me that the trailer is not covered. If I have trailer coverage, what does it cover? I have never made a claim before. When you go to the Progressive site, it even states that the trailer coverage will cover the owner in case the trailer is broken. This is no way to do business, and I will be canceling all my policies with Progressive.

    • Good luck with cancelling. They will stick it to you there also. Had my policy a little over a year. Kept being told rates would go down but didn’t. Called another insurance company (who was “on my side” and they knocked $100 a month off. When I called to cancel with Progressive, they charge me $33 for the 3 days of the month I had the policy, which I would expect. But then they charged another $62 for “certain percent of the non-active period.” What the heck? See their response below. Voodoo math if you ask me.

      “When we cancel a policy the premium is divided into two categories: the cost for the period it was active and the cost associated with the period it was not active, but would have been if not for the cancellation. We earn the cost of the policy for the active period, and certain percent of the non-active period. This is earned because we processed the policy with the expectation that it would run its full term. It did not run its full term because of the cancellation.”

I have had full coverage insurance on my rv since 09 along with other vehicles When my rv got damaged due to an ice storm, progressive’s response was wear and tear and denied my claim right away and their claim rep. [Redacted] was the most ignorant and unprofessional person I have ever met who basically yelled at me over the phone saying that my claim was denied due to wear and tear and I should just live with the denied claim or go elsewhere and he refuses to admit that there is physical damage done to the side of the rv from the impact of the hail. Never again will I do business with this insurance company again.

  37. Progressive has what may be the most outrageously incompetent customer service I’ve ever experienced. Over 9 personnel transfers today, almost 4 hours on the phone, and after 7 years being with them I’ve come to my wits end.

    It all started with leasing a new care in December. I added the new car to my progressive account. They faxed verification of account to the dealership so that they would hand over the keys. Now 4 months later, I find out the car was never added, there is a warrant out for me for driving without insurance, and attempting to resolve the issue with Progressive supervisors was fruitless.

    There are plenty of unworthy places to do business with. Perhaps Monsanto and Halliburton are at the top, but after today, I’d place Progressive close to those ranks.

  38. You find out the quality of an insurance company when you make a claim. At that point, price means little. I thought I had quality insurance rather than just some cute advertising. I was in a accident on October of 2014 and had major disc problems in my lower back. I have had to fight with them to pay my out of pocket fees. After a long fight with them, they told me they would not pay my medical claim because it was partly covered by my health insurance company (I am talking about my out of pocket expenses. Therefore I have been paying for over 5 years for coverage that was of not use to me. What a rip off. I would not recommend this company to anyone regardless of the price.

  39. I live in Houston, was in a head on collision accident, Adjuster [Redacted] and Supervisor [Redacted] claims Director Houston area, tried strong arm tactics; Return rental car or their would be consequences, tried several occasions to hand off car without any details of workmanship.
    [Redacted] had to get vehicle towed to another dealership to reveal shortcuts and oversights. They refused to complete any other work.

    What a rip off..

Do not use Progressive they are a rip off if you have Rv insurance with them and need to change the policy from a motor home to a pull behind then they tell you they have to cancel and issue a new policy and then charge you at a 90% rato cancelation rate. So for renewing my policy for a little over a month, I gave them 430.00 and only got back 343.00 and had to pay them 425.00 for the new policy. Will not renew with them again. on any of my policies. Please do not use them.

    After 15 years with this company taking my premiums, much higher than some other insurance companies, they decided to charge me to leave them. Isn’t that nice?

    Their insurance is no better than anyone else, and their rates are not the lowest either. They even had the shady sales guy on the line to try and sell me into staying with them. In the end they were just like the other shady insurance companies.

    I would suggest getting insurance anywhere but with these crooks.
