Formerly known as Personable Insurance, All Star General Insurance Agency is a non-standard auto insurance provider. They work with partner companies to provide coverage for drivers in four states.

About All Star General

Founded in 2011 as Personable Insurance, All Star General Insurance Agency acquired and partnered with several insurance companies over the first years of its existence to expand out of California. Today they operate as All Star in California, Texas, Georgia, and Florida, with plans to expand further.

All Star operates solely in the non-standard auto insurance market and focuses their efforts on states where there are large groups of drivers in need of this type of coverage. They assist drivers with problematic driving records, bad credit, SR-22s, and several other needs that place them in the non-standard market.

Insurance products are underwritten in partnerships with several companies including Peachtree Casualty Insurance Company and Lyndon Southern Insurance Company. All Star’s website is very much targeted at producers and not at customers; it is likely that the vast majority of their business comes in through brokers who are assisting customers with finding non-standard coverage.

All Star’s headquarters is in San Diego, CA, with offices also located in Irvine, CA and Atlanta, GA.

All Star Auto Insurance

All Star provides basic insurance policies to drivers with multiple tickets, accidents, major violations, credit problems, international drivers licenses, and more.

While many drivers seeking non-standard auto choose to purchase basic liability insurance coverage, All Star does offer comprehensive coverage and collision coverage options as well as a few other add-ons. These include roadside assistance and rental reimbursement, according to what we gleaned from customer reviews – which we had to use for further information due to the lack of detail on the company site.

The website, as mentioned above, is dedicated to bringing new agents and brokers on board to sell All Star’s products. As such, it provides very little information that is of any help to the average insurance shopper.

In fact, the website does not even direct visitors to any option for finding a local agent.

Rates

Online quoting is not offered on the All Star website, and as noted above, there is not an option to help find an agent.

As a non-standard insurance company, we would expect the rates here to be high, especially when compared to standard insurers. Odds are good that this company sells a lot of base-level, liability-only policies with the sole goal of meeting state legal requirements.

Claims

The only claims information on the All Star website is a list of phone and fax numbers, along with mailing addresses, for each state. This information is listed on the “Contact Us” page of the website; there is no section of the site dedicated to claims.

Toll-free numbers are listed for California, Texas, and Georgia and Florida jointly. The website offers no information as to the business hours for these lines.

Ratings and Consumer Reviews

Ratings and reviews for All Star are, in a word, dismal.

The company holds the lowest possible Better Business Bureau (BBB) rating, an F, with 11 complaints on file in the past three years. Of those, one was not resolved and two were never responded to by the company. This lack of response has resulted in the low rating.

The 18 reviews on Yelp are all scathing, one-star complaints. Reviewers report poor customer service and changes made to policies without notice as well as denied claims.

All Star still operates their Facebook page under the Personable Insurance name, and there are 14 reviews on that page for an overall 1.9-star review. Of these reviews, 11 are one-star, while three are five-star. The positive reviews, however, provide no information as to why they rated this way, this is usually a sign that they may not be valid ratings. They are especially suspicious for a company with such a poor reputation elsewhere.

The Bottom Line

Finding non-standard insurance can be difficult, but the market is growing and there are companies with much better reputations than All Star/Personable out there. Based on the lack of information and highly producer-centric website, along with the poor ratings and reviews, we suggest drivers looking for non-standard auto insurance look elsewhere.
