Offering affordable and simple life insurance, among other products, Globe Life is an entirely direct-buy insurance company with no agents. They present themselves as the easy and hassle-free choice for cheap life insurance.

Globe Summary

Globe Life and Accident Insurance was founded in 1951 with $60,000 in borrowed funds. Initially offering coverage in rural Oklahoma, the company has grown to provide insurance across the nation.

Globe writes basic and easy to obtain life insurance policies for adults and children, as well as a few similar products. They advertise as offering $100,000 in coverage for only $1 for the first month, targeting those who want a policy quickly and at low cost.

Policies are entirely direct-buy, meaning there are no agents. All of the process is taken care of online or through the mail, and the company doesn’t require medical exams.

Globe’s headquarters is in Oklahoma City, however, the company is licensed in every state with the exception of New York. They offer online quoting and policy issuing, with a quote system that requires some basic personal information, including name and address.

Insurance Products

Globe writes life insurance and a few other related products. Their main business is in simple term life.

Life Insurance

Globe writes both term and whole life insurance for adults and children. They offer basic policies with relatively low death benefits, in return for an easy qualification process.

Adult life is available in term up to $100,000 of coverage, and in whole up to $50,000 of coverage. All policies can be issued with only a few basic health questions and no medical exam. Globe promises $1 for the first month of coverage, but this does not reflect the actual monthly premium.

Children’s life is available up to $20,000, a whole life plan with a cash accumulation account.

Please Note – anyone looking to purchase life insurance should understand the cost and benefit differences between term and whole life insurance. Please see our write up regarding these products for more information.

Accidental Death Insurance

Globe writes easy-issue Accidental Death insurance offering $250,000 in coverage. These policies require no medical exam and can be issued to those between 18 and 69. Plan not available in all states.

Additional Products

Mortgage Protection Insurance

Coverage from $50,000 to  $350,000 for accidental death is available through Globe’s Mortgage Protection Insurance. This product is designed to cover mortgage payments in the event of an accidental death.

Medicare Supplement Insurance

Globe also offers a Medicare Supplement policy. This product covers costs that are not covered under Medicare, including coverage for deductibles, co-pays, and hospital costs.

Globe Rates

Globe Insurance does not write policies above $100,000 for term life, therefore we are unable to provide a comparison based on our standard rate sample.

Globe does offer the first month of coverage at $1 for the first month; thereafter a $100,000 term policy for a 30-year-old man living in California is $37.53 per month. The quoting system does not say how long the term is to which this quote relates. It should be noted that this quote is for a policy that doesn’t require a medical exam, so while its easier to get approved, rates can be expected to be a little higher overall.

Claims

The only information Globe’s website offers regarding claims is under their “FAQ” section. Here, it states that the claim should be mailed to the address provided and to allow 10-15 business days from the date that you mail the documents for them to be processed.

The company also has an eService Center, where customers can log in and handle account information and policies and check the status of a claim. The site also directs you to call their Customer Service Department, 1-888-650-4081, for a claims update.

For a company that does not have agents and handles all of its business through the mail and online, it’s surprising that there is not more access to claims information.

Consumer Research and Complaints

Globe Insurance has been BBB accredited since 1953. The company’s headquarter’s address does not currently have a rating on the site, however other addresses do, including this one in Texas. Bottom Line

Positive
Globe Life offers consumers an avenue for buying life insurance without a medical exam. This can be beneficial for people who have had trouble getting insured through other companies. There are still medical questionnaires that must be filled out honestly, but it gives people without other options a chance to get life insurance coverage.

Negative
Unfortunately, it appears that their rates go up quite a bit after that first month, and can be slightly more expensive, since they do not require an exam.

Recommendation
Anyone looking for a good entry term policy will find a good place with Globe. They do not require a medical exam, and their 100k maximum will be enough for many people.

  1. Do NOT ask this outfit for any information.

They will send you 3-4 mailings per day forever. You can’t get them to stop.

I return their mailings in the postpaid envelope filled with sand.

They still send me more each day. It’s harassment!

  2. I think I’ve had it with globe!

My wife had an insurance policy with globe but unfortunately due to family circumstances and a little confusion her payment was missed and the policy was canceled.

So we just thought we would send in a form for a new policy and all we got back was a denial letter saying that she checked off box yes Online Number on the medical question section of the form for an ongoing medical condition which she doesn’t have?

We went over this with them on the phone and even told them that they could contact any doctors for information.

The next letter we got just saying sorry we can’t give you insurance you’ve been denied no explanation and tells me I have to write to them to find out why.

I also have my small life insurance policy with them.

I think I’m going to cancel I’m tired of the runaround with this company. They give Terrible service

I was to get a bill again in March, I ended up sick and am now trying to fix this.

they took a loan out of my accounts of which I didn’t authorize which now pays me up til Dec

they will NOT take the loan off my acct even though the policy was paid

  7. No complaints with this company. My mother died several years ago. She had taken policies out on me and my brother when we were children, unbeknownst to each one of us. After her death, our sister let us know that there was a cash value built up for us, and we inquired with Globe Life regarding this. We were each sent over $900 checks within a week of talking with them. I have life insurance on each of my children through them. They have worked well for me and my family.

Told agent I had confirmation it had been sent. She with hesitation reviewed the account and said yes they had received it……I have other policies with this company and DON’T have any faith in my children receiving ANYTHING from this company upon MY death……

Get the He** out. This has been so devastating. We didn’t want him cremated we wanted a good funeral. I didn’t even go to the funeral. It was so devastating to see my uncle cremated. Now they claim I have to show his medical records and death certificate and obituary to determine if they pay me what I paid in on the insurance. These people are crazy.

    • FIRST, I bought a $10,000.00 guaranteed policy for my mom, age 76. I was the owner & beneficiary. For the first year, it was fine. But when she turned 77 (1 yr. later), I got a debit to my checking acct. for almost 2X the rate I had been paying. I called & they refused to discuss it with anyone except my mom, even though it showed on the application that I was the beneficiary & owner on the policy & I was the one making the payments. I had to set-up a 3-way conference call with; the Globe Rep, my mom & me. Then the Rep said the original quoted rate was only good for a 1st year. When I bought the policy, I applied over the phone so that I could ask questions & be certain of what I was buying. I was told it was a locked-in rate (never increase) & payout amt (never canceled or decrease). We argued, then I told her the junk mail I get from them every week shows the type policy she said I had shows rates increase every 5 years by birthday/age ending in 7(1) or 7(6). Plus the rate they were trying to charge me, wasn’t even in their brochure. My mom was in the middle of the term for her age bracket. The Rep was VERY rude & told me the brochure rates were only for the age you are at the time of purchase & then they increase after the 1st year. I asked for a supervisor & she said she was not allowed to connect or give out their number, I had to write them. Needless to say, after writing 3 different times, I still (almost 2 yrs. later) have not heard from ANYONE.

    • It seems that with the majority of complaints, I did well to seek the reviews before initiating a policy. It seems that Globe picks and chooses payouts to “cover” themselves and offset somewhat, the negative responses of the experience of clients with Globe.
There just may be a very good reason, that their advertising gets to us by way of “junk mail”.

    • OMG please include me in that lawsuit. I purchased $20,000 on my uncle in 2015 of December, he died December 18,2017. I was at the funeral home with the policy to pay for my uncles funeral, the funeral home stated that have had problems with Globe before in the past not paying. She called Globe and had me on intercom which the representative stated that my uncle passed before his 2 year(12/05/2015 the date i paid for it through 12/18/17 when he died) that they would not be able to pay. But in order to receive what I put in the insurance I had to show cause if everything he checked on his application was true, by doing that I needed to send in his obituary, death certificate, the paperwork they were going to send me to sign to get medical records if he had any. These people are crazy. I paid for this insurance on time every month and thinking my uncle was covered. I have it on myself as well , i canceled it and the same day they stated this. I rather save money in y money market account with Navy federal and pay for my funeral.

  10. I have been with Globe for over 20 plus years, do to some financial problem I wanted to use some cash out on a policy. the cash was only 245.00. Eleven years and that’s all the cash I could get out of this policy. and it takes them 25 days to send the request. I still do not have it. My policy loaned me money in less than 7 days. I believe that GLOBE must be a false company. the customer service person said it takes 15 days to process and another 10 to get it mailed out. Getting ready to write the company now and I want one agent to deal with, imagine that someone pass I would have to wait a month before payment is made.

  11. I have policies on both of my adult children that I bought years ago. A couple of times I made the mistake of paying both policies on one check, (both policy numbers were on the check.) They told me I didnt pay on one of the policies, although the money was not added to the other policy. Where did the money go? I wrote them asking that very question, and never got a response. I wrote them another letter telling them to cancel both policies. I stopped paying. They kept sending letters telling me I could reinstate the policies. Why would I do that? NOW they have sent me two letters saying I owe money on my POLICY LOAN? and that the policies are still in force. I’m not sending a DIME! They are THE WORST! We all need to report them to the BBB.

  14. I recently cancelled my account with Globe Life Insurance after realizing that the ratings increase every time my age ends in a 1 or a 6. Needless to say it got expensive. I called to cancel the insurance, and was assured that no additional payments would be deducted from my bank account. The company continued to deduct payments from my account and then strung me along that these would be refunded. The company did not return the payments to me. Now after paying into a useless policy for over 4 years, I have no insurance and am completely out of my money. These people are crooks, and con-artist. If you can avoid Globe Life, do yourself a favor and do so.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and theres never one available. Their service is horrible. Money comes out of my pay check every 2 weeks to cover the policy and Im still getting a bill. Im going to talk to my attorney about it. This is unacceptable.

And I just wanted to know what the face value of my son’s policy was . They claimed it has no face value. I told them this was the very first time an insurance company ever told me this. All insurance policies I have had with other companies over the years. Have all had a face value. I told them this . And they had no answer . I know I’m being lied to. Because this p[olicy is 19 years old. I know there’s a face value for it. What is this company doing pocketing all the money us customers are paying on our policies. Whats going on with this company.

He called and said he got this in the mail and wanted to do it instead. In looking into it for him, it is a better price, but will tell him what I have found out about the company. It is fine for him to go with them, but don’t call me if something happens. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

    Insurance Company RE: Policy: [Redacted]

    Dear Globe Life Insurance:

On November 22, 2016 my Wife Brenda Forrest Died. On December 3, 2016 I notified Globe Life about her death and mailed a Certified Death Certificate, and her Obituary.
On December 14, 2016 you sent notice you received my claim on December 9, 2016 and issued the following Ref Number:[Redacted].

On January 6, 2017 I received a letter from [Redacted], Life Benefits Division dated December 20, 2016. [Redacted] wrote “It appears that the Certificate of Death received with this claim is a copy”. I know this statement is not true, and it raised some red flags and I have done some research about Globe Life Insurance Company.

I have discovered the following information about the business practices of your company. Did you know that the complaints against your company are worse than average. Globe has a terrible complaint record 503% higher than the industry average. Complaints such as Claim delays, claim denials, failure to promptly pay claims, unsatisfactory settlement of claims, not being able to contact the company, rude service. Through out the Internet I found reviews of your company, majority of them negative, indicating questionable practices that Globe Life Insurance Company is misleading and down right dishonest.

I hope what I have discovered is not true, but what I have experienced to date by this company indicates the evidence discovered is true. I feel this company is not attempting in good faith to make prompt, fair and equitable settlement to this claim which liability has become reasonably clear.

    Sincerely,

    Kenneth W Forrest

They claim, my policies are due on different days, but it shouldn’t make a difference, if I’m paying 1 month on each policy. In March, they insisted I was behind, and I had to pay $510. Then today, May, they just charged me $275, and still insist I need to pay another $179 this month, to have all my policies caught up. This makes no sense. I have ALL my canceled checks, that were cashed by them, from every month, since I started my policies with them. I think I’m going to file a class action lawsuit against the company

Within the time of him becoming terminal ill other things became a problem. Yes, and his younger days he used drugs and he was also overweight according to the whiteman health chart. But, globle life approved his insurance and he was covered on the time of death. I made the claim because I was the beneficiary named. Globle life have wrote me two letters denied payment because my Uncles Doctor will not release medical records to Global Life. I wrote Global Life and told them thus is not my problem nor my obligation to get medical records for their useless company . Due to insurance policy being only $10,000, three attorney’s have told me Global Life is known for these types of practices. Because they know attorney fees will be much higher and people will not fight for the policy to be rendered. Global Life is full of it. Don’t waste your money with these people.

They said the policy converts to a whole life when they turn 21 and that the policy then belongs to them and I am no longer the owner. If this is the case, why didn’t someone tell me that I was no longer the owner and why did they continue to take money out of MY account? Extremely frustrated.

Yet even the adult children could not get cash value of these policies?

        This is against the law!!

I am sure they are pocketing ALL of this money KNOWING that no one will EVER benefit from these policies.

Did your adult children take over ownership of the policies and do they NOW have those policies paid up and available to them?

I think I will consult a lawyer to see why they are permitted to do this.

  30. My mom passed away recently, leaving behind what she thought was a wonderful life insurance policy on my brother, a mentally disabled adult, living in a group home. They let me pay the premium after Mom passed, but when I began to try to work with them to change ownership, they told me my dad, not my mom, was the owner. Dad passed away in 2013 and hadn’t paid on the policy since their divorce in 1988, something Globe never told Mom, while happily letting her pay. These last few months have been spent jumping through hoops for Globe. First I was told that my brother needed to write a letter requesting that I be made owner/beneficiary. With the help of his home, he sent that. Then, I was told to send Dad’s death certificate. Then I received a letter saying my brother had to re-request the change in writing. Today I was told they never received his first written request. He had to call. Don’t trust these guys. They are rude, and they keep changing what they tell us. Do not buy insurance from them.

    • Your Dad bought the policy originally (he might have had no idea your Mom did it) It is what goes down on paper. When he died the ownership reverted to the insured unless otherwise one was named before his death. Global is not the bad guy here. They are just following the rules that every insurance company uses. They don’t really care who pays the premium as long as it is paid. Their job is to get the job done right for the insured if the owner passes. It takes time. Always keep a copy of what is sent to an insurance company. I get very angry with underwriting. You have to also remember that office workers, normally, are still paid $10.00 or so an hour…

It galls me to no end that you have the audacity to bring this up. Why should it be any different if they were paid ten dollars or 50 dollars an hour. This makes one think….low wages mean I can do a crappy job. If you have a job, any job, you should do your best. If you don’t agree, then you do not need to be in the work place. Pride !!! And if this is your defense for this company, then no wonder the complaints. Please take this as my opinion only, AND carefully worded I might add.

Globe Life did not mention anything about “paid up” insurance nor cash value options. My daughter wants to reinstate her policy. Is there anything she should be aware of in doing so?

  33. Globe Life Insurance – the worst insurance company.
I was asking them to cancel my account more than one month, they didn’t and charged my card instead.
Very first time they told me “your account will be canceled in 48 hours” and then charged me.

There is absolutely unprofessional employees. Always saying me call us, then e-mail us etc… .

SCAM. NEVER BUY A POLICY OVER THERE.

      • My mom died and they never paid out its been 3 months. They said the policy was only 11 months old and that seemed suspicious. For a $10,000 pay out. So I guess you just pay them and you shouldn’t expect them to pay. The doctors even sent them a report that she was fine when she purchased the insurance. Scam

    • Hello Wilson,

I am deeply sorry to hear about your wife. I wish you and your family peace and comfort in this difficult time.

In regards to your question about Globe Life Insurance, it is important to read any documentation thoroughly before paying for coverage. They can include exclusions that limit payouts for pre-existing conditions, as well as waiting periods that must be met before the insured qualifies for a payout.

Speaking honestly with an agent would yield the best results for your particular situation, just make sure to read and understand the fine print of the policy. I don’t think many sales agents would try and take advantage of you, but it is important to know any exclusions that could be included in the policy.

    • Hello Wilson,

I’m very sorry to hear that your wife is is ill. I’m an independent insurance broker in the state of Mississippi and specialize in Final Expense life insurance. You’re question was would Globe Life insurance be the best option for your wife and does it provide first day coverage? It really depends on what medical issues she’s facing but I wouldn’t recommend Globe to anyone.

The Globe life app does include a few medical questions that you must be able to answer no to qualify as does every life insurance companies application. There are a couple of companies that I would recommend over Globe that specialize in Guaranteed Issue. Vantis Life, Mutual of Omaha, and Kemper immediately come to mind. However, the majority of the previously mentioned will have a 2 year wait to receive full Death Benefit. Generally speaking these type policies will pay you all premiums paid in plus a percentage should death occur within that time due to natural causes. It will pay the full death benefit if death occurs due to an accident.

The major problem I have with Globe, or any other mail order life insurance, is twofold.

First, I firmly believe that life insurance should be purchased via an agent. If any problems should arise your agent is the individual that will “go to bat” for you with the insurance company. He or she has the knowledge and experience to deal with such matters. Any questions you have are just a quick cell phone call away.

The other problem I have with these TV and direct mail insurance companies is the misleading, trickery, and down right false advertising.

Today there are dozens of types of Life insurance that are designed for very specific situations. Only an experienced professional agent/broker has the required training and expertise to place these policies in there appropriate use. Globe life insurance is an increasing term policy that increases every year your age ends in a 1 or a 6. For example when you turn 41,46,51,56,61,66 etc the premiums increase. At age 90 it ceases. You have no coverage nor can you qualify for coverage from Globe. Term policies have there place as do all types of insurance vehicles. A term policy is designed for a temporary need such as mortgage protection. After your mortgage is paid off there is no longer a need to keep that amount of coverage in force. Funeral/burial expenses are not temporary therefore should be addressed with a more appropriate Whole Life or even Universal life could be considered depending on the age and financial situation the client is in.

      I hope this helps.

      • Dear Todd,

I am a single mom having an issue with globe. Would you mind if I asked you a few questions personally?

      • Hi Todd,
I’m an agent as well and I agree with everything you said to Wilson. Very well said. I have a client who’s thinking about going with Global because it’s cheaper. All I will add to this is that cheaper is not always better or the best choice.
