About Old Surety Life
Old Surety Life Insurance Company was founded in 1932 in Oklahoma City. Beyond that, the website offers little in the way of details in regards to the company’s history. The “about” section of the website focuses on the company’s Christian values approach to business and their mission statement.
Old Surety sells products through independent agents across the country, and appears to operate in a very traditional manner; there is very little online information or assistance offered.
Although they are listed as a life insurance company, there is no evidence to support that the company sells any life insurance products at this time. Their focus appears to be on Medicare Supplement.
Old Surety Products
Old Surety’s website lists only Medicare Supplement insurance, which we have reviewed separately here. While that’s the only product with any specific information listed, the forms page has only one claims form, which points to a different product – dental, hearing, and vision.
The website does not offer information regarding a dental, hearing, or vision plan that they offer a claims form for. This ultimately creates confusion in regards to which products they actually do write.
It is possible that there are other products offered by Old Surety that are sold directly through agents and not mentioned on their very basic, limited website. We were unable to find further information, however, for any product other than Medicare Supplement.
Old Surety does not provide rate information on their website, nor do they offer an online quoting option. As the type of company that operates in a very old-fashioned, traditional manner, this is not too surprising.
All rate quotes are provided via direct contact with a representative or agent.
As previously mentioned, we did find a forms page with a claims form for dental, hearing, and vision coverage. Other than this, there does not seem to be any other forms available or further claims information on the website.
This is not unusual for a company of this type, but it is strange that there is a claim form for a product that isn’t listed elsewhere on the website. It is possible that the company has stopped selling this product, but continues to service existing policies.
Ratings and Consumer Reviews
For a company that offers very little information online, there is actually a surprising amount of rating and review content available. We usually find little to no consumer comment on companies like Old Surety, but we did find a number of reviews for this particular company.
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) gives Old Surety an A+ rating, and there are no complaints on file in the past three years.
Elsewhere, we found a good number of mainly positive consumer reviews. Google has five reviews, four of which are very positive and describe the company as friendly and helpful.
The company’s Facebook page, in spite of the relative newness of the reviews function, has 17 reviews. The overall rating on Facebook is five stars, and again the content of the reviews focuses on good customer service provided by Old Surety. The company also appears to take the time to respond to customer reviews on the website.
The Bottom Line
Old Surety will appeal to those who like a traditional approach to insurance and like to work with an agent, as well as to consumers seeking a faith-based company. There is some confusion in terms of what products they actually write, and it is likely they obtain most new business through agents rather than online searches, but they have a very good reputation. Those seeking a more modern approach and perhaps the lowest rates will want to be sure to shop around and compare their options before commiting to Old Surety.
