United Home Insurance Company recently passed the one-hundred-year mark in business and writes property & casualty insurance in three states. Like many smaller insurers, they trace their roots to a farm mutual insurance association.

About United Home Insurance Company

The roots of United Home go back to 1914, when a group of farmers in Paragould, Arkansas formed a small mutual fire association. The original name, Farmers Tri-County Mutual Fire Association, was changed to Farmers Home Mutual in 1929.

In 1978, the company added casualty insurance to its existing property insurance lineup. Expansion beyond Arkansas happened in 2007 as the result of a merger with United Home Insurance Company out of Oklahoma. The company now operates under the United Home name in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas.

United Home writes personal auto insurance and a variety of home insurance products, including farmowners policies, in keeping with its heritage. Policies are sold through local agents, and the company headquarters remain in Paragould, Arkansas.

United Home Products

Unite Home offers basic personal and farm insurance products for auto and home. The website offers a limited amount of information on these products.

Auto Insurance

There is not much information on the company’s auto insurance program on their website. They promise competitive rates, automatically applied discounts, and coverage for a variety of vehicles including antique and trailers.

United Home’s basic auto insurance program includes a roadside assistance option, but we were unable to find a list of other optional coverages.

Property Insurance

United Home writes standard homeowner’s insurance policies as well as dwelling fire for second homes or rental homes. They also offer renters insurance and a farmowners policy intended to cover home and farm in one.

Like their auto insurance, there is not much information on these policies, their coverage options, or any other program details.

Rates

United Home relies on agents to sell policies, so it is not surprising that the company does not offer online quoting.

Small, regional insurance companies do not usually offer rates as low as the huge direct buy insurers like Geico, but they can be competitive on a regional level, especially taking into account the perceived value added by personal service.

Claims

Claims with United Home can be filed through your agent, by calling a toll-free number, or via email. The site does not specify whether or not the toll-free line is available 24/7.

The United Home Direct Repair network is the company’s preferred repair shop system through which they offer a guarantee on repairs. As with all insurance companies, the insured can choose any repair shop they prefer.

Beyond these basics, there is not much in the way of claims information offered on the company website.

Ratings and Consumer Reviews

United Home Insurance has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and there are no complaints on file in the past three years.

There are five reviews on Google, most of which are negative. The complaints focus on denial of claims and poor response to customer concerns. There is one very positive review that cites a completely opposite experience.

There are 56 customer reviews on Clearsurance, most of which are positive. The overall rating is 4 stars, and most comments cite a good customer service experience, with a few complaints about claims.

The Bottom Line

There is not really enough information available on this company to make a solid recommendation, but there are no red flags either. They appear to have a good reputation among customers, and it might be a good choice for those who prefer to work with an agent and have only basic insurance needs.

  1. This Company is plain and simple thieves!

We have never had a claim or tickets and been customers for years, but if you add a new vehicle or driver they will stick it to you!

They wouldn’t honor discounts that they said they offered and jacked up premiums every year!

If you chose this company it will be like throwing your money in the garbage every month!

  2. I received a letter from United Home Insurance saying that due to them not being able to get in contact with me, they would not renew my policy. I called my agent and she called the company. They told her that they had mailed me renewal notices and that those had been returned by the post office. After several times of this happening they then sent me the cancellation letter. Oddly, I received that mail from them at the address they claim they had sent the renewal notices. My address has not changed the entire time I’ve been with them (since 2013, it is now 2018). After getting that cleared up, with time to renew, they then claimed that they would renew by policy but that they could not continue to insure a diamond engagement ring I had scheduled because they didn’t have an appraisal. I told them I could get them an appraisal, no problem, and had it done and sent the results over to them within the week with plenty of time to send them everything they needed to renew my policy. My renewal was due on October 23. I mailed my payment and signed papers several days before that date. I kept watching for the check to clear the bank and after a week it still hadn’t. I remembered receiving a letter from them during that week, and I just assumed it was something telling me they had received my appraisal or something like that and at the time I didn’t think much about it and I honestly actually forgot about it. After 3 weeks of no check clearing the bank, I started looking for their contact information and found the letter they had mailed me stating they had canceled the policy. I called my agent and she called the company and they told her my payment was post-marked the 27th. So they were canceling me for non-payment. They would not be reinstating the policy. So I had my agent shop around for other insurance for me and after a week she finally called me back and at this point I was disgusted so I called the company myself. Let me just say that these are some of the rudest people I have ever spoken with. And I’m in retail so I’ve dealt with all kinds of people. So I can play nice even with rude, stuck up people. I told them I understood their reasoning for the cancellation and that even tho I felt wronged because I had done my part, it wasn’t my fault the post office messed up, and I was not asking for them to reinstate the policy, just write me a new one. They said they couldn’t because of their guidelines and then they wouldn’t tell me what their guidelines are and that If I wanted that information to ask my agent. If I could have reached through the phone that woman would have a black eye right now. I wouldn’t have them as my insurance company if they paid off my house and insured me for free. I feel like everything they said had happened was a lie and that for whatever reason they just wanted to cancel me. Perhaps they have lost too much business and are going under. With staff this rude I wouldn’t be surprised one bit.

  3. I have used them for my house and vehicle policy since July 2014. I just received a letter stating that they would not be renewing my policy next month. They didn’t give any reason. My house insurance is paid once a year from my escrow account, and my vehicle insurance is drafted out of my account every month. They have always received their money on time, and I’ve had zero claims. In total, they get about $2,400 a year from me. I guess they don’t like free money.

  4. Do not use this company, my insurance was canceled, they said in a letter, because of my loss history. I had 1 claim and all it was was, was to check my roof. There had been a hail storm here we had softball sized hail. Everyone around me was getting new roofs. Mine had no damage. The claim paid was payment for the adjuster to check it out and was minimal, under $350.00. This is the only claim I’ve ever had.

Our home was damaged by a storm April 30, 2017. They initially paid us a small amount ($5000.00) to get the tree removed and electricity restored. Since then NOTHING. The adjuster decided the bids for repair were too high even though 2 were turned in and were only a few thousand $’s in difference. We have spent our own money to pay for certain services and have NOT been reimbursed. These receipts were given to the adjuster more than once. But the $$’s for major work has not even been settled on due to the adjuster not agreeing with the contractors bid. So since April we have been living with football size holes in our roof, tarps to keep the rain out, no carport, cracked interior ceilings and walls and NO air conditioner!(It’s almost August)We are upset. This should not happen. The adjuster has a lot to do with what is not happening but the insurance company hired this adjuster so I blame them as well.
BTW- When the contractor we wanted to use found out who the adjuster was, he said he didn’t want the job because the adjuster was too hard to work with.

  6. Please, please don’t even consider this company. They are unprofessional, and slow. I have tried to file a claim with them. It takes weeks for them to do anything and if you have a roof that was torn off by a storm, time is a luxary that you do not have. Terrible company!

  7. This company does not ommunicate properly, the staff is rude, they take longer to do anything that any other insurance agency. An accident was not our fault and the guy has them as his insurance and it seems like their johanna of helping people deal with this stuff is a huge inconvenience and our life is what is being inconvenienced because we were hit and the vehicle is totaled.

  8. We were canceled due to a change in our credit numbers. We have been with them for years an are retired but do not consider the cancelation of our home insurance honorable. We pay monthly int our escrow account and the bank sends United the total amount due every October. No way they would not receive their money but they canceled our policy. Just not right. Increase the premium but to cancel is not good business. We are being punished.

  9. Do not use United Home Insurance Co. In Paragould, AR. This company cancelled me after they approved me for a few months. I had 861 credit score and was retired early because I could financially. They question this and my yard. My yard had not been mowed since last summer. My home is five years old and it does not have a morgage. This was also a problem. I have not had trouble getting insurance. If this company can cancel me for silly things, they will find ways not to cover your lost. Be very careful and find another agency. If I had known they were so small, I would not have applied for their company. A small company like this could go bankrupt with to many claims.
