About State Mutual
In 1937 the Georgia State Legislature licensed 113 insurance agents in an effort to create jobs and improve the economy in the city of Rome. Out of these efforts State Mutual Insurance was born; originally the company chartered in Florida as a result of Georgia’s lack of legal provisions for mutual companies, and later they re-chartered in their home state.
State Mutual was successful and grew steadily, acquiring several other companies in the 1980s. By the 1990s the company had shifted its focus to the senior supplemental insurance market, offering life insurance as well as Medicare Supplement plans.
Today State Mutual is licensed in 44 states as well as the District of Columbia. Their primary products are disease-specific indemnity coverage and Medicare Supplement. They partner with Platinum Supplemental Insurance to market their products across the country.

State Mutual Insurance Medicare Supplement Plans
As noted above, State Mutual Insurance Medicare Supplement is sold through a partnership with Platinum Supplemental Insurance. The State Mutual website will redirect to the Platinum website for plan information. Platinum is the marketer, while State Mutual is the underwriter.
Platinum lists these five states for Medicare Supplement plan availability, interestingly State Mutual’s home state of Georgia is not among them:
- Illinois
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Oklahoma
- Wisconsin
Plan availability differs by state, particularly Wisconsin, which doesn’t use the standard letter-coded system used by most states.
Since all Medicare Supplement providers selling in the states that use the letter coded system, (which is most states) are required to sell Plan A, we can assume this plan is offered by State Mutual in the states using that system. Beyond that, availability will depend on the state.
The Platinum site provides PDF brochures for state-related details on Medicare Supplement plans, and for Illinois these plans are listed in the brochure: A, F, G, and N, along with high-deductible Plan F.
State Mutual Insurance Medicare Rates
Not surprisingly we were unable to find any rate information for State Mutual’s products. Rates usually vary from state to state. We assume they can be obtained by sending in a contact request form or calling the company directly, but there is no mention anywhere on the site of how to get a rate quote, nor do they explain how to contact an agent or representative.
