K&K Insurance is a specialty insurer in the recreation niche. It was founded in 1952 by Motorsport enthusiast Nord Krauskopf as a way to provide insurance to race car drivers. Since then, the Indiana company has expanded significantly to offer products in several recreational niches, including camps and fitness clubs.

K&K is a subsidiary of Aon, a multinational provider of risk management products. Headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana, K&K Insurance has around 200 employees and pays a commission to the independent agents who broker its policies. The company provides specialty insurance to a range of niches, specifically those with unique risks such as aquariums and zoos, outfitters and guides, martial arts facilities, or bowling and billiard centers.

Insurance Products

K&K offers general liability insurance to a variety of small businesses and organizations in the sports and recreation niche. These include amateur sports teams and associations, dance halls, skating rinks, fitness clubs, camps and outfitters.

In addition, K&K offers a few specialized products for liability and medical insurance. One example is Motorsports Disability Income, which provides financial compensation to race car drivers who are disabled during a race.

The company also offers property and casualty insurance for certain types of venues, like amphitheaters, arenas, auditoriums, and convention centers. Some limited commercial auto coverage is also available to certain specialty vehicles used for businesses within K&K’s niche.

Claims for K&K policies can be filed online, by fax or over the phone. The phone number is 800-237-2917; just follow the directions on the automated system to reach the right department.

For online claims, you’ll need to use the form for the appropriate type of policy. These are available under the File a Claim tab on the K&K website. Alternatively, you can download a PDF, fill it out and fax it to the company.

Once the report has been received, a representative will follow up to explain the next steps of the process. If there’s any other paperwork associated with the incident, you’ll need to forward it over along with the claim.

Consumer Research and Complaints

K&K Insurance has been Better Business Bureau accredited since 2009. The company has an A+ rating on the BBB website. There are only five complaints listed in the past three years listed on the BBB site. Three of the complaints are concerns with the company’s products and services and two are with billing and collection.

Bottom Line

K&K is a specialty insurance company that works inside very specific niches. Anyone looking for insurance from them are more than likely operating within a small window of possible insurers. There is not a lot of information about K&K readily available, but there is nothing that stands out as overly negative in the limited information we were able to find.

About Eric Stauffer

Author: Eric StaufferI am a former insurance agent and banker turned consumer advocate. My priority is to help educate individuals and families about the different types of insurance they need, and assist them in finding the best place to get it.

  1. This company is a rip off. I sent in applications for 2 events and they emailed back to say that my applications were incomplete and they couldn’t process them because they needed more information. I decided to go elsewhere since what they were asking was basically impossible for me to do. I emailed back and told them to shred my application as I found coverage elsewhere. They ended up charging my card anyway and I’m still waiting for a refund.

I asked how could you charge my card if my application couldn’t be processed and they said that we charge the card right away, that’s the first thing we do.

I’ve been working in the insurance industry for 30 years and I’ve never heard of charging someone for something before it was approved in underwriting. Stay AWAY

  2. Non refundable insurance policies. Their staff [Redacted] and [Redacted] convinced me to pay for the full year over the phone for my business insurance without telling me it wasn’t refundable. What makes it worse I’ve been emailing them back and forth for a month asking these two staff members when I’ll receive my refund and they told me it’s being processed. Now 2 months into the policy I’m told I can’t get a refund after I cancel the policy. STAY AWAY. DON’T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. I HAVE RECORDED CONVERSATIONS WITH THEY TWO EMPLOYEES THAT I BOUGHT THE INSURANCE FROM CLEARLY SHOWING THAT EVEN THEIR STAFF MEMBERS DON’T KNOW THAT THE POLICY ISNT REFUNDABLE, I CALLED THE LADY ASKING FOR PROOF SHOWING THAT THERE ISNT ANY REFUND SHE SAID THE MANAGER WILL CALL ME WITH IN 48 HOURS. IT’S BEEN 5 DAYS AND GUESS WHAT ? NO ONE HAS CALLED ME BACK. IF I CAN SUE THE FOR UNFAIR BUSINESS PRACTICES OR ANY KIND OF LAWSUIT SOMEBODY PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
