Imperial Fire & Casualty Summary

The Imperial Fire & Casualty insurance company was founded in 1990 in Opelousas, Louisiana. They have since expanded into several neighboring states, and now write insurance coverage in Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas in addition to Louisiana. They are licensed in several other states as well.

In 2014, the large insurance holding company National General acquired Imperial Fire & Casualty, and they now operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary. This gives the company a strong financial backing that alleviates any concern regarding the reliability of a younger, smaller insurance company.

The acquisition followed the purchase of the company by a private equity investor whose purchase of Imperial and another insurance company proved ill-fated and resulted in regulators stepping in.

Imperial Fire & Casualty still has their home office in Opelousas, but now has offices in four other states, including an office in Dallas, Texas. Independent agents sell their insurance policies across the five states they service.

Imperial Fire & Casualty writes personal auto insurance as well as basic home coverage, although not all products are available in all five states.

Insurance Products

Imperial Fire & Casualty offers auto insurance in all five of the states the serve. Home insurance is currently only offered in Louisiana and Texas.

Auto Insurance

Imperial offers a relatively basic auto insurance program that covers all of the standard required coverage and common options. They offer full coverage policies that include options for rental reimbursement, towing & labor coverage, and all of the other basics.

There is no sign of the more trendy or gimmicky options that we frequently see from large insurance companies these days. While some people prefer a large array of options, Imperial’s straightforward program is likely to appeal to those who like to keep things simple.

Imperial promises great pricing on their insurance policies, which appears to be accomplished mainly by keeping their products on the simple side.

Home Insurance

Imperial writes standard homeowner’s insurance as well as more basic dwelling fire policies.

The standard home insurance policy includes coverage for the home, personal property, and liability coverage. Again, this appears to be a straightforward policy without a lot of add-ons.

Dwelling fire policies are designed for non owner-occupied homes, specifically those that are rented out to others. They include rental reimbursement expenses to cover loss of rent, and provide specifically for the liability risks of renting your home to others.

Additional Products

Flood Insurance

Imperial writes flood insurance through the Write Your Own Flood insurance program. This program is authorized by FEMA and follows all of the regulations of the National Flood Insurance Program, but allows the insurance company to write their own flood policies within the boundaries set out by this program.

Flood is available for both residential and small business properties.

Imperial Fire & Casualty Insurance Rates

There is no online option to get Imperial Fire & Casualty Insurance quotes and quotes their policies only through agents. Furthermore, they do not write insurance in the two states from which we normally draw our comparison rates. Because of this, we are unable to provide a direct rate quote or a comparison to other insurance companies.

The company does make some big promises about getting affordable Imperial Fire & Casualty insurance; low-cost insurance is not generally what small regional insurers are particularly known for. They do keep their policies very simple, which is likely to keep rates down, but we’d be surprised to see them really competing with major direct-buy insurers.

Imperial Fire & Casualty Insurance Claims

Claims can be filed over the phone as well as online. The link on the website, ‘File a Claim’ brings you to the National General claims site. If you are making a flood insurance claim, the site directs you to call the Imperial Fire & Casualty insurance phone number at 877 254-6819.

All other claims can be filed by phone, 1-800-325-1088, available 24/7, or by submitting their claim online.

If the claim has already been submitted and the customer is looking for an update, the site provides a phone number specifically for this, 1-888-233-4575.

The website doesn’t offer any details on the company’s claims process, nor is there any information on how to file or what to expect.

Imperial Fire & Casualty Insurance Reviews

Although the company is not accredited, the Imperial Fire & Casualty Insurance rating is an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. There is only one complaint against the company in the past three years.

Our previous review of this company had the BBB rating as B+ citing that a large volume of complaints was the cause, however the previous complaint number was just 9, all of which had been responded to and closed by the company. It is nice to see the rating back up to an A+.

There are a few scattered reviews elsewhere of this company, but not many. This is partially due to the size of the company, but still points to a relatively stable and trustworthy reputation.

Financial Strength

Rating Company Grade Financial Outlook
AM Best A- Stable
Fitch N/A N/A
S&P N/A N/A

Bottom Line

Imperial Fire & Casualty offers very basic, solid products, and is backed by a huge, financially stable company. They are likely to appeal to those who prefer to obtain their insurance through an agent and who seek to find a good balance between price for coverage and customer service.

Those who are in search of the best price overall will likely find a better deal elsewhere, but Imperial is worth a look if you are willing to pay a little more for local, personal attention.

  3. Do not insure with imperial and fire casualty insurance,it is the worst insurance company EVER. They don’t care about their customers and know nothing about insurance polices. This company should be shut down.

  4. This company will NOT help you even if you have a police report stating their policyholder at fault. They will find any way possible not to get your car repaired. Their own customers review them with 1 star. STAY AWAY.

  5. We had an accident with one of their policyholders. The accident report clearly states that he was at fault. They sent an adjuster out and he said that they would be in contact with us. The accident happened on June 11, 2018 and now we are in August still waiting. When we call we go to voicemail and this what they say. Your call is very important so please leave your name and number and we will get back with you, we are still waiting. So I guess the call was not that important after all.

  6. I had an accident with someone that was insured by this company on 11/09/2017. It was clearly their fault and I have called a handful of times and keep getting sent to voicemail with no one returning my calls. It is now March 7, 2018, and the back of my car is still wrecked. This is the worst insurance company ever

    • Hi,
I had an accident with someone with this insurance as well on June 15, 2018, and can’t seem to get them to send the check so I can get my vehicle fixed. An adjuster was sent out and he sent me the estimate that it would cost. He also told me the representative [Redacted] would be contacting me to send the check. She or her supervisor will not return my call. I’m considering hiring an attorney or getting my insurance company to go after them.

  7. If you ever get into an accident with an Imperial Fire and Casualty Insurance (IFCI) card holder call the policy and make sure you have a police report, also make sure you get 50% up front for your damages from the Policy holder because (IFCI) will never call you to settle the claim, i. e. My accident occurred on 9/16/2016 I was given a claim number and an adjuster to contact I left messages for the adjuster on 9/19/2016 on 9/28/2016 and lastly on 10/4/2016 with no replay to date not even a courtesy call to tell me he is busy and will get to me soon. Nothing I called his supervisor on 10/5/2016 had to leave a message, since no one ever responds there…. in this time I have two body shops appraisal at $1300.00 for my damages. These people insure all the rejected drivers in Florida then refuse to pay or refuse to call on your claim. So people like me with perfect driving records and A class licenses who have never had an accident in over 37 years have to suffer. If I do not hear from them in the next 3 days, I and going after their client in court.

    • Did they ever work with you? I am having issues with them now. Their policy holder hit my vehicle, clearly they were at fault, and now they claim they have an issue with the policy. ugh

      • Hello, I am so sorry to hear that yet another person got into a wreck with this company’s insured, All I can tell you is get an attorney. This way, at least the attorney can buy you some time to pay bills etc. The company did, in fact, pay me around $1,200.00 for my damages but, 90 days later. Consequently, their insured is still A.W.A.L. I think he may be driving around with suspended license now since he never showed up in court or paid the ticket for that matter. I hope this was helpful Good luck.

        • Yes, I just got into an accident with one of their insurers and am having a hard time trying to get them to respond. I also am going after them thru an attorney or my insurance company. Don’t understand how they can continue to be in business.

  8. Imperial fire and casualty is very unprofessional company. Please stay away. They cancelled my insurance after I made a claim. This sounds more like a scam than business. Nightmare to deal with such business practices.

    • They are the worse insurance company on the face of the earth ,people please stay “FAR” away from them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they took my claim and never answered another call from me afterwards ,I’ve been calling and leaving messages for a whole month without one return of call or msg,the word unprofessional can’t be used to describe them ,because they’re no words to describe this makeshift company ,I paid for full coverage and they treated me as a dog ,I’m still in shock!

  9. Three months after the flooding of my home and one after another promise of just a simple phone call to me by [Redacted], a claims processor (?) who is “handling” my claim, and she just doesn’t keep her promises. It took me two months to get her name because my adjusters nor my liability insurance agent would not give me her name. I basically skip-traced methods to find her. And when I got her on the phone the first time, she seemed quite surprised that she was talking to me. She promised to return call me to keep me posted on what is going on with my claim. Repeated emails to her and she keeps emailing me back promising a phone call. Still nothing. I want to complete the settlement of my claim and I would like to do so without involving my attorney (AT HIS ADVISE), but he now tells me that he will likely have to get involved since the 90 day settlement date is approaching and Imperial Fire and Casualty nor [Redacted] will complete my claim.

  10. Please stay away from this company . They are unprofessional and is really hard to contact them , they dont want to take responsibility when they are responsible in an accident and is really hard for they to respond to your claim

  11. Imperial is a total rip off. This can’t be legal for insurance companies to do this. They total my vehicle about a week after I had my accident and after 2 months I still can’t get any head way in getting my payout.

  12. Imperial fire and casualty is the absolutely worst insurance company that I unfortunately have had to deal with in my life. I have called and dealt with and done business with a lot of different companies both for personal and business reasons and I am shocked at the deplorable operating procedures and customer service procedures that imperial fire and casualty have. This company needs to go out of business.
