What are Liberty Mutual car insurance rates?

Liberty Mutual car insurance has, on average, been found to be considerably more expensive than its competition. When compared to other car insurance providers, it was found to have mixed consumer satisfaction reviews.

It was concluded through a three-year study done by NIAC that Liberty Mutual scored a ‘below average’ in overall customer satisfaction and has had more than the expected number of complaints to state regulators based on its size within the industry.

Liberty Mutual was also found to be 23%-62% above the average car insurance industry rates, as well.

But despite this, it has still been able to hold a national average of 826 in a 2021 U.S. auto industry study. This study was based on the responses from 38,938 auto insurance customers and was fielded from February 2021 to March 2021.

J.D. Power’s 2021 U.S. Auto Insurance Study examined customer satisfaction into five different categories: billing process and policy information, claims, interaction, policy offerings, and price.

What are the benefits of Liberty Mutual car insurance?

Even with its high policy rates and mixed customer satisfaction reviews, Liberty Mutual car insurance does have a wide variety of discounts as well as policies to fit each person’s unique situation.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

Coverage Details
Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage Covers the costs of an accident with a driver who has insufficient insurance or no insurance
Personal injury protection Extra coverage for injuries, lost income, and other expenses that result from injury to you or your passengers

Most of these features are not unique to just Liberty Mutual and can be found with most other insurers. However, Better Car Replacement and 24-Hour Roadside Assistance are two programs that are exclusively unique to Liberty Mutual car insurance.

This coverage is ideal for consumers who need immediate assistance, whether that be from an accident resulting in a total or extensive damage that has left the car unusable for more than 24 hours.

Like many insurers, Liberty Mutual offers a wide variety of discounts for its consumers. And with their above-average rates, it’s important that Liberty Mutual has these discounts available to its policyholders as well as new consumers looking for better programs to offset some of these costs.

However, your Liberty Mutual auto insurance quote will differ based on your location and personal situation.

What are GEICO car insurance rates?

GEICO car insurance has a satisfactory rating of over 4.7/5 stars. GEICO prides itself on having a positive customer service experience as well as being incredibly convenient for those on the go.

It sets itself apart by providing the most convenient online solutions for its customers to handle their insurance policies, as well as making its platform very user-friendly.

With only 150 office locations nationwide (compared to the staggering 900 locations that Liberty Mutual offers), if you are looking for that in-person experience, another insurance company may be a better fit for you.

Please check your local listings for a full breakdown of Liberty Mutual insurance addresses as well as locations for GEICO offices within your area.

However, despite the small setback of local locations, GEICO’s auto insurance rates were found to be consistently lower than its competitors:

Rates by Geico Nat. Average
Age (35-60yrs) $1,046 $1,221
Mileage (6,000-12,000) $1,071 $1,299
Type (Low-High) $1,102 $1,322
Credit (Poor-Good) $1,371 $1,702
Driving Record (Clean-1 DUI) $1,766 $1,727
Subject to vary based on location.

With the exception of driving records, GEICO has held the lowest rates for all categories. Their up-front policies regarding DUI violations set a serious precedent by treating them as heavy violations. These are used as a deterrent against re-offenders.

In terms of convenience, they also offer 24-hour customer service and an app where you can control almost all aspects of your policy on the go. GEICO will even provide assistance if you need an SR-22 or FR-44 coverage filed on your behalf.

Some other programs that are available:

  • Prime Time – A guaranteed auto insurance renewal program designed for GEICO customers who are over 50 years old.
  • Auto repair program – Program includes a network of repair shops that work with GEICO.
  • Car buying service – Connects you to local dealerships and lets you see what other people have paid for a certain vehicle. You can use this service to compare car prices without having a GEICO insurance policy.
  • Gap insurance – For leased vehicles
  • Mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI): Pays for certain repairs to vehicles that are less than 15 months old and have fewer than 15,000 miles.
  • Accident forgiveness: Your auto insurance rates will not increase after your first at-fault accident.
  • Glass coverage: Waives your deductible for comprehensive claims for glass repairs.
  • Rental reimbursement: Covers for the cost of a rental car if your car is non-drivable for more than 24 hours.

Does GEICO car insurance offer any memebership discounts?

Along with also offering bundling multiple vehicles under one policy for a heavy discount, GEICO also offers discounts for members who are:

Membership Discounts Details
Federal employees Active or retired federal employees can qualify for a discount of up to 8% on their car insurance.
Military Active-duty U.S. military personnel, retired U.S. military members, or members of the National Guard or Reserves could save up to 15% on premiums.
Students Full-time students who maintain at least a “B” average may save up to 15% on their total car insurance premiums in some states.
Employees Being a member or employee of a certain organization. There are more than 500 schools and universities, professional organizations, and other institutions included in this group.

These, combined with discounts for safe driving and low-risk drivers, are some of the many benefits that GEICO offers against its competitors.

GEICO Temporary Car Insurance

While GEICO doesn’t offer temporary car insurance at this time, you are able to purchase a six-12 month policy and cancel it when you no longer need it. If you decide to terminate your GEICO car insurance policy early, you will not be charged any cancellation fees.

You may also be able to get a refund for any unused coverage time you’ve prepaid for.

Another alternative to temporary car insurance is a GEICO non-owner car insurance policy. Available to those drivers who do not own or do not have regular access to a specific vehicle, non-owner car insurance is cheaper than a standard policy since you are not covering a specific vehicle.

If you rent or borrow vehicles often but don’t own a car yourself, then Geico’s non-owner car insurance is an affordable option.

Other GEICO specialty insurances included:

  • GEICO ATV insurance
  • GEICO RV insurance
  • GEICO Motorcycle insurance

So what’s the bottom line?

While each insurance company has its own pros and cons, GEICO offers significantly more discounts than Liberty Mutual.

Combined with their higher premiums as well as not having as many discounts available to their consumers, Liberty Mutual will have a hard time keeping up with the competition.

GEICO has set itself apart from the rest of the industry by setting record-low premiums as well as deep discounts for its policyholders.
