About Standard Life and Accident
Standard Life and Accident Insurance Company dates back to 1933 when they were founded in Oklahoma City under the name Hospital Service Company. The company was originally created to offer hospital coverage plans through a select list of hospitals in the area, but within a short time period expanded its products to include accident insurance and general health coverage.
The name Standard Life and Accident was taken on in 1940, and this was followed by decades of acquisitions and expansion; first into the Midwest, and then beyond, to a total of 32 states by 1968. In 1976 the growing company became a subsidiary of American National Insurance Company. This acquisition led to relocation in 1998 to Galveston, Texas, where the American National headquarters is located.
Standard Life and Accident writes a few basic life insurance policies as well as a long list of supplemental health products. Their Medicare Supplement policies are not currently available in all states.

Standard Life and Accident Medicare Supplement
While there is a Standard Life and Accident Medicare Supplement plan listed among the products on the website, there is a complete lack of detail regarding the products and services.
There is a basic overview of what Medicare Supplement insurance is, a white paper touting the benefits of the high deductible Plan F option, and instructions to contact a representative for more information.
There is not a list provided of which plans are offered by the company, nothing describing the plans, and no further information regarding benefits. We can assume the company sells Plan A, as they are required to do so in order to sell any of the plans, and since they are pushing Plan F with the high deductible option, it seems likely they sell that plan as well.
There are a total of 11 lettered Medicare Supplement plans on the standard plan list, however, Standard Life does not provide information in regards to which ones they have chosen to offer.
Standard Life and Accident Medicare Rates
Not surprisingly given the fact that the company does not list which plans they sell, Standard Life and Accident does not offer an online quoting option or provide rate information.
We do not generally expect this type of company to provide online quoting but do frequently see a basic cost chart for Medicare Supplement plans, something that is absent here.
Standard Life and Accident Medicare Claims
Claims forms can be downloaded from the website to be filled out and mailed to the company. There is also a toll-free claim phone number listed for those who require assistance. There is no Standard Life and Accident Medicare claims address.
Beyond this very basic contact information, there is no further claims instruction or detail offered to the customer via the website. This is not unusual for this type of company, however, the claims page could provide a little more in the way of detail as it is lacking compared to what we would typically see from a similar company.

Standard Life and Accident Medicare Ratings and Consumer Reviews
While the Better Business Bureau (BBB) has a file for both Standard Life and Accident Insurance Company and its parent company, American National Insurance Company, neither company currently has a rating. There are no complaints on file for either company.
We found no reviews or complaints of the company from consumers on any of the usual consumer reviews sites, nor were there Google or Facebook reviews available. In general, there is little to go on in terms of the reputation of this company. No news is often good news when it comes to insurance companies, but it’s not a guarantee.
Standard Life and Accident Medicare: The Bottom Line
Standard Life and Accident Insurance Company offers very little information on their Medicare Supplement plans, making it difficult to offer an opinion on their service and products. They are likely the type of company that gains most customers through agents and brokers rather than online searches, and their approach to having an online presence (or lack thereof) reflects that.
Affordable Standard Life and Accident Medicare insurance may be available to you, but you can’t find rates online. However, we can help you compare rates from top Medicare companies right now. Just enter your ZIP code to get started.
