Settlers Life is a final expense insurance focused company based out of Virginia. The company is no longer writing new business but continues to service existing policies, which will be absorbed by its parent company, National Guardian.
About Settlers Life
Settlers Life was created in 1933 under the name Huff-Cook Mutual Burial Association. The company continued to focus solely on final expense insurance and became Settlers Life Insurance Company in 1984. Settlers was acquired by National Guardian Life Insurance Group in 1999.
Settlers started out serving only Virginia, but by the time of the announcement of the company closing its doors to new business was serving much of the country and had only just begun operations in several new states in 2018. The company stopped writing new business as of November 2018.
According to the company website, Settlers Life did not choose to stop writing new business for financial reasons. All of the existing policies will be serviced by parent company National Guardian, which sounds like it may have been a decision to re-brand although no explanation is provided on the website.
Questions and concerns, according to the website, should be directed to National Guardian insurance.
