Backed by an international company, InsureandGo’s 10 years in the travel insurance business have earned quite a few customers each year. With a range of insurance products, InsureandGo covers you whether you’re on a cruise or on the slopes, from students to seniors.

InsureandGo Summary

InsureandGo is part of the Spain-based MAPFRE family of companies, a worldwide group serving 43 countries. They have been writing travel insurance policies in the U.S. for more than ten years, and sister companies write travel insurance in the U.K., Ireland, and Australia.

Another MAPFRE subsidiary, American Commerce Insurance, handles underwriting for InsureandGo policies. All of this gives InsureandGo a strong financial backing and international standing.

InsureandGo is licensed to write travel policies in all 50 states, and writes both international and domestic policies for travel within the U.S. and beyond. They also write cruise insurance and specialty policies for families and seniors. Plans are available with varying levels of coverage to meet each traveler’s budget and travel needs.

InsureandGo USA sells products directly through the website, and aims to offer a good value to consumers. A wide variety of services and information is available through the website. The U.S. headquarter is located in Miami, FL, with international offices around the world.

Insurance Products

InsureandGo USA has many different products with varying levels of coverage. Both the International and the Domestic plans come in Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels. There are also Cruise, Family, and Senior plans, among others, all with the same three levels of coverage available.

The coverage offered by the three levels is generally the same across the various categories, although there are some differences, included added coverage and benefits that are specific to the needs of each category.

In spite of the comprehensive nature of the plans and the variety available, there is no indication on their website of any option to add a Cancel for Any Reason clause to the plans. In fact, there do not appear to be any add-on options for any of the plans, at least not readily available online. This is a good thing in terms of no nickel-and-diming the cost of policies, but may mean that specific coverage needs are not available or met by these plans.

The Silver plan is the most economical, but leaves out some of the coverage available on higher-level plans. With this plan you will have these benefits:

  • Trip Cancellation coverage at 100% and Trip Interruption at 150% of nonrefundable trip cost
  • $250 for travel delay
  • $750 for baggage and personal effects
  • $300 for baggage delay
  • $250 for missed connections
  • $100,000 in emergency medical expenses coverage
  • $250,000 in emergency medical transportation and repatriation
  • 24-hour emergency, travel, concierge, and roadside assistance
  • Pre-existing condition coverage when the plan is purchased with 14 days of trip deposit

At the Gold level, benefits increase in some areas while added benefits are available in other areas.

  • Trip Cancellation coverage at 100% and Trip Interruption at 150% of nonrefundable trip cost
  • $250 for travel delay
  • $1000 for baggage and personal effects
  • $700 for baggage delay
  • $250 for missed connections
  • $250,000 in emergency medical expenses coverage
  • $500,000 in emergency medical transportation and repatriation
  • $50,000 for Air flight Accident AD&D (Accidental Death & Dismemberment)
  • $25,000 for Travel Accident AD&D
  • 24-hour emergency, travel, concierge, and roadside assistance
  • Pre-existing conditions covered when the plan is purchased within 14 days of trip deposit

The highest level of coverage available, Platinum plans offer the most in medical coverage and higher limits in several other areas as well.

  • Trip Cancellation coverage at 100% and Trip Interruption at 150% of nonrefundable trip cost
  • $500 for travel delay
  • $2000 for baggage and personal effects
  • $800 for baggage delay
  • $500 for missed connections
  • $500,000 in emergency medical expenses coverage
  • $500,000 in emergency medical transportation and repatriation
  • $50,000 for Air flight Accident AD&D (Accidental Death & Dismemberment)
  • $25,000 for Travel Accident AD&D
  • 24-hour emergency, travel, concierge, and roadside assistance
  • Pre-existing conditions covered when the plan is purchased within 14 days of trip deposit

On top of these basic coverage levels that run across the board on all plans, there are differences for each type of plan.

Global Plans

These plans differ from Domestic plans chiefly because they provide primary medical coverage rather than secondary. Travel plans for international travel provide for the fact that your health insurance plan may not provide any coverage, or limited coverage outside your home country.

Global plans cover you for repatriation as well, if emergency medical evacuation becomes necessary, which isn’t as useful on a domestic plan.

Domestic Plans

With the Domestic Plans from InsureandGo, medical coverage is secondary – which means your own health insurance will kick in first and the travel policy pays anything that is not covered by that policy.

Cruise Plans

InsureandGo USA adds additional benefits to cruise plans that are specifically designed for the needs of travelers on cruse ships. These benefits include ship-to-shore evacuation in case of medical emergencies, missed cruise departure coverage, and coverage for on-shore excursions that were paid for but missed due to a covered reason.

Family Plans

Family Plans are designed to meet the needs of families, with children covered in one place along with their parents. These plans allow for sickness and injury to any of the family members and coverage is provided for medical expenses and travel delays as a result.

Senior Plans

Senior Plans can be purchased for domestic or international travel, and they provide comprehensive medical coverage to meet the needs of older travelers. International medical coverage is primary, while domestic is secondary to Medicare or any private health insurance.

Additional Plan Types

In addition to these plans, the Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels of coverage are also available with other travel-specific benefits. InsureandGo USA has plans directed at the needs of people on golf or ski vacations as well as other sports. They also offer Business Traveler plans to help cover the specific needs of those on business trips.

InsureandGo does not offer any sort of multi-trip plans, nor do they have any a-la-carte options to choose from for those who have more basic insurance needs. That makes the choices simple, but also somewhat limited.

InsureandGo Pricing

Pricing for InsureandGo policies is on the lower side, especially for the higher-end packages. The lowest-priced option, the Silver plan, comes in around average for a basic entry-level policy – however, the price does not increase as greatly with the added benefits as with other companies, making the top policies a good value.

It’s worth noting that these policies do not include Cancel for Any Reason coverage, a benefit that tends to drive prices up very quickly on travel insurance.

Quotes based on a 30-year-old traveler residing in California and going to Mexico, with a 2-week trip and a cost of $5000 returned the following numbers:

  • Silver – $138
  • Gold – $153
  • Platinum – $165

A difference of only $27 between the basic and the highest level policy is well worth the extra expense when you consider it doubles the medical evacuation coverage, provides five times the medical expenses coverage, and adds considerable coverage to almost every other aspect of the policy.

A quote for a cruise trip returned the same rates as the basic international quote, indicating that there is likely no difference in cruise premiums than any other international travel.

A quote for a ski trip to Canada with the same age, trip length, and cost, also returned the same rates. Although there may be differences with different destinations, overall it seems that InsureandGo offers similar rates for various types of international travel.

Quoting the same traveler with the same trip length and cost, but instead a trip within the USA, to New York, the rates returned are not far off from the international cost. The main difference here is that the medical coverage is secondary in the USA, so it’s not surprising given the same limits that the prices are similar.

  • Silver – $132.12
  • Gold – $147
  • Platinum – $159

Again, the difference between Silver and Platinum levels is not a big one, making the highest end package the better value.

InsureandGo USA handles claims mainly via mail. While they have a claims line available for questions, concerns, and assistance as well as an email address, the site indicates that claims forms should be sent in by mail.

The mailing address for claims is:

InsureandGo Claims
7300 Corporate Center Drive – Suite 601
Miami, FL 33126

Claims forms are available to be downloaded and printed on the company’s website, or a claims representative will mail them out to you to complete and return.

Claims contact information is:

Phone: 888-491-4577

Surprisingly, InsureandGo does not have any kind of online claims submission option. There is a customer portal through which policy information can be viewed, but there is no indication whether or not updates to claim status can be seen there. It’s unusual to see a travel insurance company that does not offer any sort of online claims service.

InsureandGo Customer Service

InsureandGo has to emergency contact numbers for policyholders to use 24 hours a day. The U.S. number is 888-568-5153. International emergency calls are directed to 305-913-1867. There is also an email address:

Customer service for all other inquiries is available through a different contact line. You can call or email the company at:

Phone: 888-491-9596

The customer service line is only available during daytime business hours and is not a 24-hour line. This is somewhat surprising in a direct-sales company serving multiple time zones.

Consumer Research and Complaints

InsureandGo USA is a Better Business Bureau accredited organization. They have a rating of A with the BBB and there is only one complaint on file in the past three years, which is a good sign for a company that claims to cover 2 million people every year.

The vast majority of reviews on various websites are from people who purchased a policy but did not file a claim. These indicate ease of use on the website, very friendly customer service, and a quick purchase experience. The few reviews from those who did have a claims experience are generally positive.

InsureandGo has been in business for more than ten years, so that’s plenty of time for negative reviews to start piling up. The fact that there are not many is a good sign – few reviews overall usually means most people have had a positive experience, as people tend to write reviews mainly when they are displeased with a service.

Bottom Line

InsureandGo USA has some of the better-priced travel insurance policies out there, especially at the higher levels of coverage, where the premium difference is negligible compared to the much higher limits. They are a good value in basic coverage, but don’t offer some of the extras other insurance companies might have, such as Cancel for Any Reason or Rental Car Damage. That said, they have a good reputation and offer basic policies at a good price. They are a good choice for anyone who doesn’t want to deal with add-ons or options.

The one notable down side is the lack of an online claims submission option or any sort of claims monitoring, which is becoming expected in today’s mobile world. That’s a fairly minor consideration however, for an otherwise strong contender in the travel insurance market.

About Eric Stauffer

Author: Eric StaufferI am a former insurance agent and banker turned consumer advocate. My priority is to help educate individuals and families about the different types of insurance they need, and assist them in finding the best place to get it.

  1. Stay well clear of insure and go had heart attack sent docs letters in saying had one said not enough to make claim
    pure rubbish

  2. Took out an Insure&Go Silver policy to cover a world trip including cruises (as also did my wife’s sister and husband for same trip).
our premium for 2 was approx $1,800
We had a suitcase stolen in Genoa. It contained a number of items including ones that had been left to my wife by her recently deceased niece. Also had a fitbit watch and a Kindle e-reader plus all my medication for the trip.
This insurance company is now refusing to make payment for our claim (which was not huge) because we do not have original receipts for the stolen items. We had replaced some of the items (shoes, clothing) naturally but they will not pay for these because we do not have ORIGINAL receipts – only the receipts for the replacements (this was at the very start of our 8 week trip around Europe).
The Fitbit watch and Kindle e-Reader we have not replaced as yet. We do not have original receipts as we destroy these after any warranty has run out (ie after 1 year).
The items left to my wife by her deceased niece were jewellery and fortunately my wife left the very expensive items at home. However (for future buyers of insurance especially from Insure&Go be aware that for items like these you need original receipts – not sure how we can get these from a deceased niece so this is ridiculous.
Out trip was in June/July/August and although we had a police report (unfortunately in Italian organized by our multi-lingual hotel manager) we are still battling with Insure&Go over this one claim. I even volunteered to sign a Statutory Declaration in relation to our claim but that made no difference. We are pensioners in Australia and, unless paid out, are unable to replace our stolen items. We would never go back to or recommend Insure&Go to any honest people.
This statement is probably a waste of time here but it will in general be going to a lot of places to warn other travellers to watch out for travel insurance policy details.
