Agricultural Workers Mutual Auto Insurance Company, or AG Workers for short, was founded in 1948, in Ft. Worth, Texas. As the name would suggest, it was created to service the needs of people working in agricultural fields. It was founded as a mutual firm and maintains that structure today, meaning that dividends are paid out to insureds in the form of lower premiums or year-end rebates.

As with all mutual firms, rates can vary from year to year depending on the shared risk of all drivers as well as the company’s overall health. In years when a mutual firm makes a profit, premiums can stay low and insureds can receive dividends. In years when a company doesn’t do so well financially, those problems are passed along to individual subscribers.

Insurance Products

Auto Insurance

Agricultural Workers Mutual Auto Insurance Company sells products in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas, with the focus being on car insurance. It also offers home insurance, ranch, umbrella and other policies through its “Ag-Pro” division, as well as a finance component for agricultural workers to obtain auto financing. Both of these options are available only in Texas; the Oklahoma and Arkansas branches of Ag Workers only insure private motor vehicles.

The AG Workers website doesn’t provide any information about its products. Some additional research reveals that it offers the expected basic coverages like collision, comprehensive and liability, as well as standard deductions for multi-car policies and safety features.

AG Workers doesn’t appear to offer any special programs, likely because it doesn’t rely on a big marketing push to sell policies. The company’s primary draw seems to be its mutual firm status and history within the agricultural community.

Agricultural Workers Mutual Insurance Company Rates

The company’s website is thin on information and hard to navigate, making it not particularly inviting to a new customer. Although there is a prominent link for obtaining a free quote, the actual process for getting a quote is more convoluted — you either need to call the hotline at 800-772-7424 or download a PDF file, file it out, and email or fax it back.

The lack of a proper online quote form is a bit of a turn-off for anybody planning to do some comparison shopping for rates on their own time.

You can file a claim over the phone by calling 1-800-772-7424 and pressing “4”. There is no online claims reporting form or even a claims email.

I will note here that there is an “Account Login” option, so additional choices may be available for registered members of the site.

Based on the website, it appears that Ag Workers uses a centralized call center to handle its claims. Generally, the people staffing these types of call centers are not licensed adjusters and are trained to handle simple claims, like a rear-end accident with no injuries. Anything more complex would be forwarded to a local licensed adjuster; the AG Workers representative you speak to would provide that adjuster information at the time you filed a claim.

Consumer Research and Complaints

It’s hard to find much honest information about AG Workers, probably due to the size and obscurity of the company. There are no readily found consumer reviews online, and the Better Business Bureau lists no complaints. What reviews are online are mostly housed on review aggregate sites, and they’re all very vague — again, probably because Ag Workers itself hasn’t divulged much information for people to go off of.

Bottom Line

Agricultural Workers Mutual Auto Insurance Company is one of many mutual firms designed by and for farmers. Farmers are a popular risk pool to insure because rural drivers traditionally pose lower risks. With that in mind, there are plenty of larger and better-known companies that offer everything Ag Workers does plus additional features and coverage options. There just doesn’t seem to be anything to make Ag Workers stand out as a clear choice for someone shopping for insurance.
