A part of the Farmers Insurance Group, Foremost Insurance is one of the biggest providers of non-standard and specialty insurance products in the country. They write a variety of home insurance, vehicle, and recreational policies and often cover risks that other insurance companies will not accept.

About Foremost

Foremost was founded in 1952 for the purpose of offering home insurance to mobile home owners and was the first company to do so. Based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Foremost grew steadily over the years and expanded their product lineup to include more specialty products. They were the first company to write policies for travel trailers, and today offer a full range of recreational vehicle products along with specialty auto, motorcycle, and home policies. They are the number one mobile home insurance company in the country by market share.

In 2000, Farmers Insurance Group acquired Foremost, which gives its policyholder access to multi-policy discounts across companies. Farmers is in turn owned by international insurance giant Zurich Insurance Group.

Policies are sold through the huge Farmers Insurance network of captive agents, with more than 38,000 agents nationwide. Foremost is also endorsed by the AARP for both mobile home and motorcycle insurance and is affiliated with Farmers-owned Bristol West Insurance and collector car insurer J.C. Taylor. The company offers products in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

Foremost Products

Best known for mobile home insurance, Foremost offers a range of other home policies. They also write a variety of auto insurance coverage, motorcycle, and variety of recreational vehicle policies including ATVs, boats, and other vehicles.

Home Insurance

Foremost’s home insurance program focuses on homes that may not qualify for a standard homeowner’s insurance policy. This includes homes that are older or have certain risk factors, seasonal and vacation homes, mobile and manufactured homes, and rentals.

Homeowner’s Insurance from Foremost is, at the base level, an actual cash value, named perils policy. This means that the policy will only cover the specific perils listed in the policy, and it will only pay out the actual cash value of the home at the time of the damage based on age, condition, and depreciation. There is an option to upgrade that coverage to replacement cost, or even to 125% replacement cost if the home qualifies.

Also included are personal property coverage – which can also be upgraded to replacement cost – liability coverage, and the option to add on several endorsements to protect home businesses or high-value items.

Some of these options – particularly extended replacement cost – are difficult to find in a non-standard home insurance policy.

Mobile Home policies are Foremost’s flagship product and are available for older mobile homes as well as newer manufactured homes. The coverage includes a comprehensive list of named perils and has the option to add replacement cost coverage as well. Liability and Agreed Loss Settlement are both also included, along with extras like food spoilage, debris removal, additional living expenses, and coverage for trees, shrubs, and bushes.

There are a wide variety of add-on endorsements for mobile homes that rival the list offered by many standard homeowner’s programs. This includes:

  • Hobby farm or ranch liability
  • Identity fraud
  • Water damage
  • Earthquake coverage
  • Trip coverage when the home is moved
  • Scheduled personal property
  • Personal property replacement cost

Vacant and Seasonal Home insurance is designed to cover a home that is not a primary residence and is vacant for periods of time, either seasonally or for other reasons. These homes represent an increased risk due to the fact that there is not always someone around to notice a problem and can be a target for thieves and vandals. Foremost’s policies cover vandalism and malicious mischief on vacant homes.

Foremost will cover seasonal homes with no requirement that a primary residence is insured by the same company. Both policies offer named perils coverage and actual cash value – but only seasonal homes can be upgraded to replacement or even extended replacement cost coverage.

Landlord Insurance is designed for rental homes, and it provides coverages specific to the needs of landlords in addition to the usual home protection. Foremost’s policy includes loss of rent coverage and personal injury coverage. This product also has to option to upgrade to extended replacement cost coverage.

Flood insurance is also available as a separate policy for homes from low to high risk.

Auto Insurance

Foremost offers auto insurance policies that are underwritten by Bristol West Insurance. They do not write any auto coverage directly. Bristol West offers non-standard auto insurance to drivers that may have trouble getting coverage elsewhere.

Collectible car insurance is also available through an affiliated company – JC Taylor.

Motorcycle Insurance

Foremost insures a wide variety of motorcycles, and bikes that cannot be covered under a Farmers policy are often sent to Foremost for coverage. They offer comprehensive motorcycle insurance policies that include all of the basics of liability, comprehensive, and collision and also some motorcycle-specific coverage such as safety apparel coverage and optional equipment coverage.

Coverage also includes roadside assistance and trailer coverage. The policy is an annual term and is priced to compensate for the off-season in locations where motorcycles can’t be used in winter months.

Specialty Vehicle Insurance

Foremost has policies for a wide range of specialty vehicles, including:

  • Neighborhood Electric Vehicles
  • ATVs
  • Snowmobiles
  • Scooters
  • Golf Carts
  • Off-Road Vehicles
  • Luxury Motor Coaches

They also offer a program for various watercraft, from speedboats to personal watercraft (jet skis) and more.

Foremost’s recreational vehicle program includes coverage for both motorhomes and travel trailer. Specialized coverage includes full-timer options for RVs.


Foremost’s online system did not allow us to obtain rate quotes for any of the products we tried in our sample state of California; in each instance, we were given the option to contact an agent. It is unclear whether any product in any state can be quoted online – the system seems to indicate that the quoting options vary based on product and location.

We were unable to obtain any rates for comparison, but it is worth noting that Foremost writes specialty policies and also accepts risks other insurance companies would turn down. This means their rates may not be comparable to standard insurance companies.


Foremost claims can be filed online or toll-free at 1-800-527-3907. Claims representatives are available 24/7 to assist customers.

Auto claims are submitted to a separate claims department since they are underwritten by other companies.

Foremost boasts a team of more than 14,000 claims representatives and has Mobile Claims Centers available for catastrophic situations such as natural disasters. Claims are handled via a common process of contact, estimates and evaluation of the claim, and payment of claim. The length of time for a claim to be closed depends on the type of claim and the nature of the loss.

Ratings and Consumer Reviews

Foremost’s Better Business Bureau (BBB) page for the main office in Michigan does not currently have a rating. The file states that complaints are handled by another BBB, but none of the branch BBB pages we checked for Foremost have a rating.

Consumer Affairs has a total of 35 reviews on a homeowners-specific review page, with a 2-star rating overall. The reviews are mainly negative, but the number of complaints is really quite low for so large a company.

In general, the complaint volume for Foremost is low, and they appear to have a solid reputation, but it is always worth checking local ratings for a company that depends on captive agents, as the agent experience can make a big difference to overall customer satisfaction.

The Bottom Line

Foremost is a big, solid insurance company backed by even bigger companies that provide financial stability and access to a variety of policies and discounts through their affiliation. They have a lot of experience in their areas of expertise and are well worth a look if you need non-standard or specialty insurance. They are also a good choice for those with Farmers policies in force, as cross-company multi-policy discounts may apply.

  1. Really upset with this insurance Co ( Foremost ).

    I have Home insurance with them; put in our first claim drain broke and rotted our bathroom floor now.

    We have not known this for some time and just finding out about it.

    We called Foremost the adjuster came out and said no we’re not covering it.

    We have been with them for 29 years and paid in $24,000 in premiums and they won’t cover $3,000 claim


  2. Paul Finnaly is the worst insurance adjuster in the southeast Michigan area.

    He’s very rude, extremely lazy, and can’t remember s#^$!

    We’ve had a customer waiting for a recoverable deductible check for 3 months and he purposely puts it off as long as he can.

    As if the money is coming out of his own pocket, he thinks he’s got the right to hold it!

    I tell all of my customers to switch insurance companies if they have Foremost, all because of Paul Finnaly.

    He doesn’t pay s*^$, and he’s a piece of s@#*…

  3. I have just spent over one hour trying to access my Foremost motorcycle insurance through AARP.
    There are plenty of pages asking you log in to ‘MAKE A PAYMENT’. Outside of that, I was never able to find a hint to log in to my account and review my current policy. AARP chat was absolutely useless and all Foremost offer is a quote for a new policy.
    UTTERLY STUPID customer service and much more time efficient to get insurance from another company.

  4. Foremost Auto just lost a good customer. I’ve been with the company for 12 years never a late payment never even called them until recently when I had an accident. It happened at 6pm Tuesday night so that meant no one was available to make a claim or tow or anything I was stuck with out of pocket everything. They said what happened was covered so tow it to a shop and they will handle anything this was from claims agent [Redacted] in Texas area so if you get her I am truly sorry she’s awful! After taken to the shop she called saying It wasn’t in an accident and that the person they sent and my shop agrees. Well, I called my shop and at the time they still haven’t looked at my truck it’s been in waiting. So their lie number one. So I called her back now she knows I know she’s lying so she doesn’t answer the phone doesn’t call back. So now I looked up her supervisor [Redacted], talked to him and he informed me [Redacted] never said all this and she’s an honest employee and this and that. Well after my shop calls back and says they have looked at the truck they have evidence I was in a collision and I was on my brakes caused all the damage to my truck. They still wouldn’t call the shop back to get the information of they were wrong and their breeching Our contact. [Redacted] tried to tell me, [Redacted] sent him an email saying she did call the shop 20 mins before I called him. Once I called the shop to verify this, I found out from them she hasn’t spoken to them in two days. They did nothing but lie to me, and didn’t uphold the contract of insurance I have through them. Also, I have a sheriffs report and everything to prove what happened happened. Just them playing it out as my truck older and high miles so that has to be it. They lost a good customer and if they continue this they will continue to lose more. The good news is I am going to a great insurance company with a lot more to offer and I can reach them anytime! And it’s going to be a lot better. No more saying I have Foremost and people telling me they are sorry for me. After this, I get why they always did. And if anything me reads this gets either [Redacted] or [Redacted], immediately get changed over. They are two terrible human beings and just going to use words to think what they are doing is okay.

    • They are freaking horrible and they are the worst. They opened their doors in 1955, they should have closed it right away, for crying out loud!!!! Look what is happening to me now, 2018, September. Unfortunately, I got car insurance with them, worst decision of my life. They not only skyrocketed my insurance per month I started at 168 a month, doable for me single living on my own, but by the end of August, I had to pay 211 dollars, according to them because I am a premium customer. Nobody offered me [redacted] for this. How the [redacted] did they assume that? So I couldn’t afford it for this month. I have paid for the month of July thru August, but somehow I don’t know, they must be busy playing around their own [redacted], because, since July, when I actually paid for this disgusting useless worthless of insurance they apparently seem so good to offer, did not appear in the system and I looked like I did not pay since July and I got my license suspended. Great foremost, I’m sure they train their little [redacted] employees to be useless. They give u attitude and that’s NOT The only useless place, unfortunately, oh yeah CFE is crap as well. I apologize for my rudeness I am beyond exasperated and I feel that I am in a sinkhole because I have nobody that can help me. Now I’m debt with this [redacted].

      • Most of the time, they collect your premiums, then fail you when you need them the most, and need to make a claim. They stuck it to you early, they will bad mouth you, and put things on your record to make other companies charge you more. Remember, Farmers Insurance is their parent company and supports all these anti-consumer dirty tricks that are perpetrated on customers.

  5. Please do yourself a favor and do NOT get an auto policy with Foremost. Today is the 63rd day without my vehicle as the engine is ruined due to flooding, for which Foremost has denied my claim. I am appealing the denial with the help of my mechanic who refuses to release my car because it is unrepairable and unsafe. Conveniently no one is ever available to speak with and none of our calls are being returned. I have now hired an attorney for help. Dealing with this company is excruciatingly frustrating–RUN AWAY.

  6. Extremely disappointed with the way my claim was handled. My wife had a fender bender and it took me 48 days to get her car repaired simply because my agent could not be reached and would not return my calls. I had to call Foremost to complain about the agent. When she finally reached me, not only she was rude and unpolite but also incompetent. When the shop tried to reach the appraiser, his voice message stated that he was out of the office until next Monday. There was nobody else to handle the case in his absence. Ridiculous! It took another 2 weeks for the appraiser to come over to authorize the service. I had no choice but to switch to a different company.

  7. I am very glad I read these reviews before I purchased RV insurance with Foremost. I got a quote and a cheap one at that, and nothing about all the hidden fees that you all talk about. I thank you all and you have made my decision easy, and that is to stay away from Foremost. I don’t need all that mess. THANK YOU

  8. I would like to post to warn customers that NO ONE should use this company or beware!!! CHECK YOUR POLICY!! They are writing most small homes on ACV policies vs Replacement Cost (RCV). This means if you have a loss you will only receive 25% of what your home cost if you’ve owned it 20 years & paid premiums all those years. They depreciate it for every year you’ve owned it i.e. $90,000 home total loss they would pay you $22,000 and subtract the deductible also. The claims service is the worst I have dealt with, and I worked as an agent for 20 years.

      I had filed a claim in May of 2018 and still haven’t received any kind of payment or reimbursements for the repairs that we paid out of pocket to fix the damages!

      I thought thats why you have insurance but if you want to be paid then don’t get Foremost!

      So if anyone knows who I can contact about getting back what we are entitled to then please email me at!

  9. This company is ridiculous. As I sit here writing this (1 hour into making calls). I am being transferred yet again. Foremost seems to be an offshoot of an offshoot of an offshoot. Every number on my policy is the wrong number. Every “representative” I talked to gave me a bad number. Just now transferred and ended up in billing. Seriously. I hope I never have to file a claim. I’m thinking new auto insurance is in the future.

    • I had Nationwide Insurance up until 2009 when I moved and rented my home. The Nationwide agent didn’t cover landlord insurance and referred me to Foremost but that Nationwide agent was always on my Foremost policy as being the agent to call. When I called to cancel Foremost a couple of weeks ago, the Nationwide office said I had to call Foremost and they gave me their number. It took a few minutes but I was able to cancel and just received my cancellation letter in the mail. I actually had already purchased new insurance over a month ago because I was unhappy with Foremost and had seen so many of their bad reviews. The letter said that I actually have a refund coming but I’m satisfied just getting another insurance and putting Foremost out of my life.

      • I’m happy to report that I did receive my cancellation letter and surprisingly received a check in the mail. The claim that I had made four years ago and again in 2017 was turned down both times. I had some damage to an exterior wall from wind and rain. I got that fixed with about $700 in new materials and one month of free rent. My insurance was costing me about $900 a year and I had been paying it since 2009. It doesn’t seem like smart business to me to lose a steady and paying customer by refusing to service such a small claim. I now have higher coverage insurance and I’m making lower payments. Shop around, there are more companies to serve customers now, and you may get better coverage at a lower price.

  10. Foremost is the most horrible broker out there. BE AWARE that as your renewal comes around they will charge you double in less then 18 days…..ridiculous right. Anyhoot I’m gonna cash out and give them whatever it cost financially in my budget to get the [redacted] off their policy and run…..such scam they have. BE ADVISED PEOPLE. STAY FAR AWAY FROM FOREMOST INSURANCE AND ANY OTHER ASSOCIATE THEY MAY HAVE.

  11. I sure wish I had read all these comments about Foremost before going with them for Insurance. Went through Geico to get Snowmobile Insurance. They were super nice got a good price back. Not so good is they use Foremost as their Under-righting company. About a month later I get a bill from Foremost for twice the amount quoted. I canceled the policy immediately. They still claim I need to pay there increased premium from the start of the policy until I canceled it. Also, they charge you for canceling their policy early. I went to the state apparently they can do this for 60 days after you start a policy. Nothing I can do. I have dealt with other companies in the past. Never has another company used these tack-ticks before.
    For anyone reading this. If you hear the name Foremost find someone else.


  13. Worst company ever. Customer service sucks, its trash. I went to make a payment online and it said that there was an error and the payment failed so I called and paid over the phone. After that, I look at my account and I found out that yes the payment went through the first time after it said it failed. Oh, and they still took the phone payment for the same month. So I called to get this corrected and after talking to 4 different people that I could not understand, nothing matched. 1 said I would get my money back within an hour to my debit card the other said 24 to 48 hours and so did the 3rd person. I called after 48 hours then I got put on hold numerous times and spoke with 3 people only to find out that they are going to mail my check. If I don’t receive it they will be getting sued. This company and the people working for them are GARBAGE. I will be getting insured elsewhere. If you are thinking of getting insured with them DON’T. They are unprofessional and Farmers is just as bad for being a parent company.

    • The exact same thing happened to me. Took my first payment, sent me a notice of cancellation unless I paid an amount twice as much as my premium. I called and paid it in a panic. Talked to someone two days later. They told me there was an error and I overpaid. They said they would apply it to my account. The next day I received a refund check. I called, they told me I had no payment due until May 21. They told me not to cash the check. I held onto it. I received another cancellation notice. I called today and I have a payment due tomorrow of one and a half times the premium. They said the previous check was still cashable. They then said I have another payment due April 22. I speak to a different person each time, with a different answer. Will be shopping around.

  14. I had car insurance with First Century then they stopped covering Florida. I was given the option to let Foremost take over the policy but I went with State Farm instead. 2 mos. later I get a bill from Foremost saying I owe them 2 mos of coverage. So I wrote them and told them I never took their policy, the next thing I know they put it in a collection agency hands, so I write the agency and told them I never signed anything or received any form etc.
    I told the collection agency to send me proof of where I ever signed anything. Haven’t heard back from them.
    I am an honest person who has always paid my debts.
    I’m thinking of getting in touch with some ins. commissioner if this persists.
    They should be sued.

  16. I was insured by Foremost for 21 years paid a couple 1000, dollars a month, plus hundreds of dollars a year. Premium increases. Never once filed a claim, I filed after this last hurricane September 10, 2017.
    Due to severe damage to my 60 by 24 foot mobile home. The eye of the hurricane Irma came right on top of my 5 areas for a couple hours. Well over a 100 miles an hour sustained for hours.
    Foremost adjustor came look and gave me …nothing …for my mobile home. Mold fungus, ripped panels on the roof, and inside my home. I was insured up to 90,000 on mobile, 36,000 contents.
    Foremost did not give me one penny for damage to the mobile home after paying Premiums up to 21 years and this is my first filing. This is my experience with foremost they take your premiums and give back nothing. [Redacted] are currently suing Foremost of the trust company on my behalf [Redacted].

    • Insurance customers should review all complaints against Foremost insurance and Farmers insurance, which are the same company. Farmers bought Foremost in the year 2000. Customers should select a company that has integrity honesty and doesn’t breach their contract when you have faithfully paid your premiums.
      Foremost insurance company hires lawyers to try to beat you out of their obligations for damages. That’s my experiences with Foremost insurance company.

      • I’m truly amazed that this company hasn’t been exposed to their corrupt business practices. I’m even more amazed that Farmers Insurance, their parent company, would leave itself so vulnerable to blame. I guess the profit from their crooked operations easily blinds their board of directors.

    • They need to be shut down. All they are is a bunch of liars and cheaters. The government needs to investigate and shut down the ones that are just out to rob us blind. I have a saying about companies. You’re covered till you make a clam. It is guaranteed to tell it is broken. The problem is they are not for the one that pays there payment every month. All they care about is how much will their bonuses be and wall street. But if we could band together an say enough is enough, every time a storm comes they freak out an say oh no we won’t get big bonuses so try to find any way to not pay the clams. The old saying is true. Money is the root of all kinds of evil. If I was to ever come into money I want to start an insurance company that doesn’t worry about getting big bonuses an only looking out for there selves and wall street.

    • I had them for over 20years. My first budget payment was always Feb. In 2016 they changed it to Jan. I didn’t notice and went online for next three months when they sent me a check for the 3months saying the policy was canceled. I couldn’t reinstate because it was hurricane season. Called back in Nov I did, and they said no. Customer loyalty means nothing.

      • I had Foremost for nearly ten years but found that I couldn’t depend on them to pay out even a small claim. This was one that I paid out myself for about $800 in supplies and one month’s rent which was a thousand dollars. I switched to ASI, which is owned by Progressive and it saved me about $300 a year. Foremost was expensive and when you can’t count on them, the choice to switch was an easy one.

  17. I totaled my car that was covered by Foremost Insurance in August 2017. They paid the claim. Although I did not add a new car to this policy they continued to bill me for insurance that I did not need because there was no longer a car on the policy. In fact, I signed the title over to them in September 2017 and they continued to bill me for insurance even after they owned the car. Unfortunately, they were automatically withdrawing the payments from my bank account and I didn’t realize it for a couple of months. My bad. In October 2017 I sent them a letter requesting that they cancel the insurance effective the date my car was totaled and refund me the overpayments I had made. They never responded to this and billed me for the month of November, after I had sent them the letter. By then I had terminated their access to my account so they could not take the payment from me. They sent that November non-payment to collections. On January 4, 2018, I sent them another letter canceling my policy again, and I sent copies to every address that I could find that was associated with Foremost Insurance, including Farmers Insurance. I told them if they did not respond I was going to file a complaint with the State Department of Insurance. Apparently, they do not care because none of the 6 recipients of this letter has bothered to respond. So I will go forward with a complaint to the State agency. Most reputable insurance companies will do all they can to resolve issues because they do not want complaints with the State agency on their record. Apparently, Foremost Insurance is not among the reputable insurance companies.

  18. If you have homeowners insurance with Foremost I highly recommend that you check your policy. If you have water damage from a frozen busted pipe you probably are not covered.

    Find an insurance company that will protect your belongings. They were no help in repairing the damage.

  19. This company is the worst ever don’t ever use get Foremost or you’ll be screwed. They’re insured rear ended me and I’m fighting tooth and nail to get my car fixed. It happened in September and it’s now November 2017 I finally got my car in the shop but I have to put the deposit down for the Rent-A-Car even though it wasn’t my fault and I didn’t rear end myself. My adjuster [Redacted] is no help she won’t return my phone calls she won’t help in anyway shape or form she completely avoids it. The adjuster that came out to look at my car told me oh you don’t have to get it fixed yes I do I’m not gonna run around with that bashed bumper. He looked at my car told me he would call me back later he finally called back with an estimate and admitted that older probably going to be more damage behind the bumper. This company is a joke stay away.

  20. Short story version. We had damage from Hurricanes Irma and Nate. There is a hole in the roof along with shingles randomly falling off in normal rain. Thus caused a leak in the house. My front bedroom now has half a ceiling left due to the damage and when we filed a claim, first claim we have ever filed, we were given $500 to replace a roof, ceiling inside and fireplace which has now become an indoor water feature. The adjuster that came out said the roof was spongy, an understatement since all the shingles are loose, measured the roof, took a couple of pics and left. We have never filed a claim on homeowners insurance before and we were not prepared for this. We foolishly believed that $1,000 a year in premiums gave us piece of mind if something happened. NOT!!!! We now have mold inside which we are all sick from and no money, except the $500 they said should take care of everything. This is a case of buyer beware. Thus company will mean hospitalization for us for the infection from mold in the very near future. If we had any other choice here we would dtop them like yesterday’s garbage. DON’T USE FOREMOST AS YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY! !!! YOU ARE BETTER OFF NOT HAVING INSURANCE!

    • If my mortgage company hadn’t already paid them in advance for a year, I would have already cancelled. I have zero confidence that any of my money would be returned promptly, if at all. The insurance industry seems like a crooked confidence game and may eventually have to be bailed out like AIG. It seems like a huge pyramid scheme and lots of repairs don’t get covered even after they have already collected many thousands of dollars from their customers. I have paid off my mortgage and have talked to other insurance salesmen but my policy isn’t up for renewal until June 1, 2018. I think Foremost and I can mutually agree to part but they better not count on ever getting any business from me again, and that goes for Farmers too, their parent.

      • Agreed! Between health, life, vehicle, disability and homeowners insurance we pay out over $1,500 a month. It is astonishing how much insurance companies make from us every year and THEY get bailed out. Feels like the Twilight Zone.

      • FYI—I believe but am not certain that you can have your policy prorated: ie: averaged out over the year for a daily cost then they should return to you any portion of the payment not used. This is how most insurance companies work. If you want to cancel and go with another company this will hopefully work for you. Good luck!

        • Sorry to disagree but I will be 70 in a few days and have had many insurance policies but I don’t think Foremost is like most insurance companies. I’m paid up to June 1st, 2018 and have already starting getting quotes. I simply don’t trust them and will keep their policy until it expires. I may purchase another policy well before the expiration but if my house burns down, I’m sending a claim to them first. I understand I can’t collect from them both but I would rather see them pay.

        • This is apparently not how Foremost works – we canceled our policy after 17 days of service due to selling the property and they want to charge us for the entire year… if anyone else has had this experience please reply.

          • Hello, Jen, my name is Daniel Diaz I also have an account with these people. One thing I can say is I think there should be a group to get together form some kind of lawsuit against this company as they are very dishonest and their stories never match up. Their service is horrible, they take payments without providing adequate services, on my part they have taken 2 payments for 1 month and had no intention of telling me. As for reimbursement, I was told a check was getting sent out each time I spoke to somebody they told me something different, a different date, etc. Best thing is to try to make a class action lawsuit against this company I’m really not good with laws but maybe you may know somebody or maybe somebody may read this that knows somebody. Something definitely has to get done

I had the worst experience with this company… firstly they tried hitting me with hidden fees for not going paperless which I had the worst time getting resolved…the customer service representatives were rude and very argumentative…I am on social security and had issues with my check for a couple months and called and explained that my direct express card was cancelled…the next two months they kept charging the cancelled card and charging me insufficient funds fees even though I had paid the bill from a different bank card…all the while arguing with me saying that my bank refused payment when I had conformation numbers I later had to submit…after a lengthy process and multiple agents refusing to connect me with a supervisor I finally got in touch with one and the issue was resolved….upon calling and cancelling my policy over the phone I then two months later relieved a “final notice before collections” bill saying I owed $103.00…two days later I received a letter from the collection agency requesting these money’s….upon contacting foremost again and inquiring about these charges I was told there were no notes in the system about me being told I had a new billing cycle and therefore was being charged these monies due to me being locked out of my email account and not able to receive these updates….I spoke with a supervisor who appologized for the poor experience with customer service and was told that I was still responsible for these monies….I will end up paying them regardless but the whole experience was absolutely terrible and I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy…be for-warned….this company is all about the mighty dollar and could care less about their customers….I’d give my experience 5 thumbs down…. terrible company and should be investigated by the better business bureau….thanks for nothing Foremost….

  22. I love Foremost Insurance! I had a car accident on September 20, 2017, just a week after being hit with hurricane Irma. Foremost picked up my car from my home a couple of hours later. Everyone that I spoke to on the phone was super helpful and very polite. Today makes a week after the accident and they have already settled my claim. They gave me a very good price for my car as well, allowing me to drive away with my new car this evening. This has been a terrible few weeks for us here in Florida, but Foremost really came through for me. I will continue to be a Foremost customer with my new Dodge Dart and any future household cars. Thank you, Foremost.

  23. Years ago, I never checked the reviews but after getting a raw deal a couple of times, it’s now the first thing I do. When I decided to move to Az. from Mi. in 2009, I found out that Farmers didn’t cover landlord properties but they referred me to Foremost. I found out that my payment would be much higher for my little home($872) but at that time there wasn’t many insurance companies covering vacant or rental properties in Mi. In 2012, the renter called and said there had been a terrible storm that had ripped off the siding on one side of the house and it got soaked. To minimize the damage as more storms were expected, he tacked the siding back up. I called foremost and filed a claim. The claims adjuster came out, took a few pictures, and reassured me that all was fine. However, the renter was a store manager, not a carpenter, and for five years has tried to keep the vinyl siding in place. There must have been some exposure for five years as it got worse and he said the wood underneath seems rotten near the roof. The roof was only about four years old and has never leaked in the 13 years that I lived there. So I filed a new claim and Foremost came out again. They told my renter that it looked to be a valid claim. Nearly a week went by before I got a letter in the mail denying my claim. Their excuse was that the damage had to have occurred since 2012 when the other claim was filed so my claim was going to be denied because it didn’t happen as a one time event. I’ve paid this company over $10,000 and believe it did happen as a one time event when I first reported it and they are negligent for not fixing it in 2012. Landlords and homeowners, beware of Foremost and Farmers Insurance. You could spend a small fortune believing you have adequate coverage until having a claim and they will penny ante you not willing to fix the repairs even for a trifle sum of money.

    • Yeah they are not a good company take them to court. All they do is pray on high-risk claims charge a high premium and give a false sense of security! When it is time to pay they will almost always come up with some clause in the policy about a pre-existing problem so they won’t have to pay out. They have denied more claims then they have paid this year 2017

  24. I thank all those who took the time to write in re Formost insurance. I have a mfg. home and am retired and THOUGHT going through AARP would ensure a reputable insurance company. WRONG! I was withing 60 seconds of taking out a Formost policy but, on a gut feeling, came here and read the reviews; NOT A SINGLE ONE WAS NEAR POSITIVE!

    • I wish I had found reviews before taking out my policy almost 5 years ago. I am in deep for storm repairs that will cost me over $5,000 to repair and our adjuster generously gave us $500. If I could go back in time. Lesson learned the hard way.

  25. Foremost insurance l really should just go out of businesses and stop taking people money, Foremost dont help when you need them and we are looking into Farmers Insurance to do business with. after reading these comments, I need to hurry

    • Foremost is owned by Farmers. You should look into Farmers carefully before switching to them either.

  26. Foremost Insurance has lost a future customer. Beware if your neighbor has a policy with Foremost and something happens on there side of the fence. My next door neighbors mobile home caught fire and was a total loss. Catching our mobile home on fire. We had exterior damage melted Vinyl skirting carport caught fire wood areas ect….. Our insurance company stepped in with our repairs but our deductible was withheld and was to be Reimbursement Through Foremost Ins. Now we are told they will not reimburse us as there was no “Negligence” is the word I believe we were told. So how is it we were negligent and should have to eat the deductible because the neighbors house caught fire and damaged us????? Come on Foremost your inspector was here you saw the losses what’s the deal.

  27. I have been a customer of Farmers and their associated companies that include Foremost, Bristol West Auto, Kraft Lake Business Insurance, and a few others for several years. I have had a couple of situations in which the person providing me with the service was not the most professional, but I have never had a problem with claims, resolving billing issues, etc.
    Before I came to Farmers Insurance I was with Allstate Insurance. I can tell you that between the two companies it’s like night and day. Farmers will go out of their way to keep the customer happy, whereas once Allstate has your money, they don’t care whether you stay with them or not. They know there is always another “sucker” out there that they can fleece.

  29. Foremost absolutely sucks, to be blatantly truthful. The amount of my policy went up twice with absolutely no warning, and their customer service agents are about as helpful as a box of rocks. I tried to cancel my policy, thought it had been taken care of, only to find out via a letter in the mail it had been cancelled due to non-payment. Evidently, they do not accept electronic signature, but no one from the company bothered to contact me and tell me. Instead, they ignored my cancellation form. Probably hurt my credit, but at this point I don’t even mind. At least I don’t have to deal with this company anymore. Progressive all the way!

  30. FOREMOST IS THE WORST INSURANCE I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH IN MY ENTIRE ADULT LIFE. You truly get what you pay for with these people. Service is horrible, takes forever just to get ins. cards. Its amazing that they have 52 ways to ‘make a payment’ BUT only ONE way to get cards or other information you NEED. Then when I canceled this stinking service they play dumb and for 4 months withdraw money from my acct. (didn’t notice because I was dealing with family) I call them up about it and they have me faxing in 1 paper. I call back. then I have to fax another paper, and so on 5TIMES!! They are quick to take money and bend over fire to get you in then when you wise up to their scam, then they come up with more rings than Saturn to jump through. I would NEVER suggest this place to anyone. Thank God i never had to do a claim. We would have been totally screwed. They think I’m going to give up getting my money back but NO WAY in HELL.!!!! They knew I had another insurance all that time because I personally faxed in the “cancellation” form. Companies like this make me sick.

  31. DO NOT BUY a Foremost Policy, ever. I was with State Farm for 12 years and made the mistake of being talked into getting this policy. I live in the State of Texas and this company sends adjustors to use their policy in ways not to cover you when unfortunate things happen to your home. Worst experiences with Foremost.

  32. Never ever will i use foremost for insurance needs. Got a motorcycle policy. Was paying monthly and notified them 2 weeks prior to my going with another company for half the price. They say thank you for my business. I would receive check for difference in my payment and when the policy ended. 3 weeks later I get a bill for 66.84??? Called them, they say I owe more due to me cancelling. 2 mos of coverage and have to pay basic Lyons a 3rd payment for cancelling. Such BS. Stay away!!!

    • Same happened to me … PLUS my premium would go up a few dollars every other month!

  33. I recently purchase a motorcycle, and, before leaving the dealer, I contacted my car insurance agent about coverage. My agent stated his company did not write motorcycle insurance, but he represented another company that did. I thought the premium was very high, but, at the moment, I did not have a choice. The next day I began shopping other companies, and I found the same coverage through Dairyland for almost half what Foremost charged. I got a Dairyland policy, and I canceled my Foremost policy which I had for only 5 days. I had paid the first month’s premium of $49.60 when I took out the policy, and, since I only had coverage with Foremost for 5 days, I expected a refund. However, approximately a week after canceling, I received a bill from Foremost for another $15.40. I contacted my agent who researched this charge. He found something he did not know, and that was Foremost has a minimum premium of $65.00. I think this is unreasonable, but, since it was valid, I paid it. My issue is not so much the unreasonable charge, it is that this was not explained upfront. The agent who wrote the policy was not even aware of this. If you are considering Foremost, beware of hidden charges.

  34. Worst insurance company I’ve every had too deal with,for twenty years we paid our premium approximately $25,000 , no claims in this time period.
    Few months ago I noticed a soft spot in our laundry room floor I decided to investigate by cutting a hole in the wall to find a slow drip on a pex fitting, I was told it was not covered due to the fact it didn’t happen all at once and that it was considered a maintenance issue that I should have known about and had fixed before it rotted out the floor…. So apparently you should cut holes in your walls and check for leaks at least once a year just to make sure there’s no leaks in your walls!
    Kicker was six months later they cancelled my policy for none payment but they sent me back my last payment so not that I didn’t pay they didn’t accept my payment!
    Farmers and foremost are both crooked companies that work harder at paying share holders than taking of there customers!!!! Anyone that works as an adjuster for either co. Should be ashamed of their job and themselves….may the flees of a thousand camel’s infest all of you involved so they can slowly suck the blood out of you like you have us. People like this is what is killing America! Shame on you all…..

  35. i echo mr. holloway’s complaint almost word for word. nothing else to add except in my case i was given a relined policy. my policy rate was very high and the people who run it are basically vultures who are all about ripping off anybody but especially people of color. they have nerve to send me a bill for $10.00 after taking me through the same changes reported by mr. holloway.

  36. The dealership recommended this insurance company and since it was a Saturday I thought I would try them. HUGE mistake! We were unable to get the paperwork originally and when we finally received it the information was wrong. The VIN was incorrect as well as the value of the vehicle. We paid almost $18,000 for the motorcycle but the paperwork we received showed the value at $12,500. When we asked that it be corrected we were told to cross it out and write the correct amount ourselves (which isn’t legal on a contract). Our first auto draft payment went through but the next one never cleared and we received a cancellation notice. When we called again we were told that it was set up to auto draft again but that date rolled by as well with no payment made. We never received the corrected paperwork and the policy was cancelled. We received another bill today (a month later) saying that we owe them $15 for the period that we were covered and hadn’t paid even though we called multiple times and were told it was taken care of on multiple occasions. Thank God we never had to file a claim. I can only imagine what a nightmare that would have been. Horrible customer service from both the people we spoke with. Don’t waste your time or money!

    • Also had a simmilar experience bought a car on black friday money was taken out for my insurance on the day i bought the car i called my bank to verify and they told me my funds were put back in my account because they had an invalid account number the funds wete never put back in my account right around the time my next payment was due the sent me a letter about cancellation and that i owe 422 dollars mind you my monthly payment is around 100 a month. and only a month has gone by this company needs a lawsuit against them.

  37. Absolutely dispize this company. They quoted me 200 and some change per month. Never was told about anything else and the next month rolls around and my insurance went up $103!!! When I reached out to the agent he never got back to me. I left several messages. 6 days until I can get out from these people and I get a fender bender. No big deal. These people drag their [Redacted] on doing anything. I STILL haven’t had my accident resolved and claim finished. It’s absolutely unprofessional and so deceptive to give a quote to someone and then jack up the rate because you didn’t tell me the quote included deductions for things I couldn’t verify and never said in the first [Redacted] place! Horrible customer service, horrible human, horrible company, just a bunch of money hungry LIARS.

  38. Horrible company . My local agent was very interested in getting my bank account info in a text message and kept asking me to send her my account info or credit card info via text message. turns out I had problems paying my premium online . I called and she asked for my bank account info again and again. I cancelled my policy after 21 days of coverage now they would like and extra sum of money for early termination . I contacted her district manager and after telling him my issues he replied in a smart tone what would you like me to do about it ? and told me I should have just sent a check . [Redacted] these folks would love to misrepresent themselves and ask you to give them every opportunity to get your bank account info and credit card info out there .

  39. Water damage to kitchen floor, leak from water line on refrigerator, when ceramic tiles were pulled up, there was black mold, and the floor has to be replaced.
    Our home is so old no one else will ensure.
    We were denied because adjuster said it was a slow leak.
    tHE water had seaped under the tile, and we didn’t notice.
    Sorry Company, like throwing money down the drain.

    • Foremost is a terrible insurance company they explain nothing and explain nothing about how the deductible and depreciation are applied and then mail you a check. Then tell you met your max for the damage and if there is more after construction they will let you know. And when all damages are fixed then they will assess everything and then let you know if all the monies you paid will be refunded. Instead of applying the deductible once it’s paid.
      It’s all business and money!!! We switched insurance and so do 10 of our neighbors.. DON’T BUY THERE INSURANCE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND AWFUL CLAIMS ADJUSTER LIKE [Redacted].

  40. well again they have said they cannot help us on our roof repair. Raining badly in two spots, have pictures and now its so bad the ceilings on the inside will need
    repair as well. We have called foremost twice through the years, both times was told they cant help because there was no wind damage found, but hey its raining in our home, the water odor is bad and just pray no mold. this company is just out to get your money, they should be investigated. getting another insurance. and pray no one else be treatec like this.

  41. Foremost paid for everything. 5 Star company. [Redacted] was my agent. He is professional and very fair with claims. I asked a pastor one day, how did you start playing piano for the church? He told me, Aaron I wasn’t the best piano player but I was available. [Redacted] made himself available to help me. Thank you Foremost!!!

  42. Claims agent just left, he told me not covered for water damage, due to rain. (not wind driven)
    Have never filed a claim in 12 years of having the policy, have paid over $15,000 in premiums.
    Changed to Foremost on AARP sponsorship. Guess they are unable to read our concerns, just want the money for sponsoring Foremost.
    Allstate agent said would cover water damage for $572.00. Foremost is $1172.00 with no coverage.
    So, guess what I am going to do?

  44. Foremost Auto Insurance is absolutely ONE OF THE WORST auto insurance company in Florida. I have been a customer for three years. They’re people who handled a relatively simple Hit and Run claim for which I have full PIP and Uninsured Motorist Coverage, have insulted my insurance agent, and made go through three depositions, and in the final five minutes of the last one, the lawyer practically called me a liar.
    When I discontinued their insurance last week, they committed fraud and larceny by deducting over $1000 in premiums that I did not authorize for renewal, as had been the procedure for each six month renewal. I had gone to another company (“Flo” at Progressive) and paid six months there, but Foremost raided my checking account without authorization, and it took six days and multiple contacts and repeated sending of documentation to prove to them that they had taken an unauthorized deduction. I had threatened them that unless the refund was in my account today, I would file a fraud and larceny complaint with the Florida Insurance regulating Commission. Fortunately, for everyone concerned, there was the refund posted on my acccount.
    But I would advise anyone considering to purchase auto insurance in Florida from Foremost, Bristol West, Security or Farmers (they have themselves embedded with many legal shields), that you run away very very fast from there. They are an unethical organization. And I can’t even watch a J. K. Simmons movie anymore, since he is the Farmer’s Insurance TV spokesman, even through I used to think he was an excellent actor. But whenever I see him, I want to vomit now because of the horrible, insulting treatment by the Foremost/Farmers organization.

  45. Never use these guys. I paid my premium for home owners insurance. A month or so later they informed me they were going to have to cancel the policy. I went to the trouble of getting another policy and paying for it assuming they’d return the remainder of my premium. I forgot about this until they sent me a renewal notice. It turns out they did not cancel the policy after all. They did not bother to inform me of this or I would have cancelled it myself. In trying to get them to return my premium I was informed they would not. As far as I am concerned these people are a rip-off. I will never do business with them again and will warn everyone I know they are not to be trusted. RIP-OFF.

  46. NEVER use this company, we had our camper insurance with them. Found some water damage last week, I live in arkansas & had to deal with the adjuster in michigan. Sent someone out who was there 5 mins snapped a few pics then left. Called today to say it wasn’t covered because there was no “wind” or “limb” damage he could see. How can you come to that determination from sitting behind a desk 10 plus hours from me? Please explain? All he kept saying was it’s not covered blah blah blah! They were dropped 2 minutes after I got off the phone with him! Piece of [Redacted] company, 98 out of 100 reviews I have read we’re horrible please do your research & never trust this company! Quick to collect your money but find any & every way out of paying!

  47. I will NEVER ever use Foremost again. I used them for my boat insurance because we had switched insurance companies for a friend selling Farmers. I had them a year and tried to file a claim on the motor. The gentleman on the phone told me the claim would not be processed because the cracking fell under exclusion #13 or something rediculous like that. I asked how many exclusions they had on a simple boat insurance and he stated 19. To me if you have 19 exclusions chances are the things that are covered do NOT outnumber the amount of exclusions. Just rediculous. When asked if I could find the list of exclusions online he stated they would only be on my original paperwork. I will never use this company for anything again. Horrible customer service and shady.

  48. Foremost insurance is the company AARP recommends for their members who live in manufactured homes. In late April 2014, a plumber found a hidden leak behind the shower wall, which he fixed but he also found mold, which eventually extended through two bathrooms, an entire bedroom, and a hallway that included cabinets. Everything in those rooms was demolished. Foremost denied the claim because it was a hidden leak. The company’s representative who came to look at it was rude, unpleasant, and accused me of lying about when I noticed a leak that brought the plumber in.

    A woman representative from the company called me and seemed very happy to tell me, Foremost would not cover hidden leaks. She said if we were in Georgia, they would have to cover it but they do not have to cover hidden leaks in Florida. I am in my mid-70s and had to take out a massive personal loan to rebuild, which is still not completed. (I’m humiliated to admit, I was scammed out of several thousand dollars).

    I wrote letters to every official, to our attorney general, to the head of our state’s consumer and insurance affairs, to AARP suggesting they advertise the companies from which they get some sort of bonus, to problem solvers, to the BBB, and to other agencies about the insurance company and about the person who scammed me.

    So here is my advice: if you have a manufactured home and you have Foremost insurance, make sure they cover hidden leaks in your location. I have developed all sorts of health problems and emotional traumas over this. –I now have a company that covers everything! and it costs me nearly $1,000 less than Foremost. My cat and I have lived in chaos with things that belong in bathrooms, bedroom, linen towers, and cupboards all over the rest of my home.

    • We had much the same experience except with an RV. We have used Foremost for 20 years and have made 2 claims: one was a windshield, one was from damage from sideswiping a post. We had dry rot in two rooms and the kitchen and filed a claim. They came out and looked and denied the claim which we understood as it was ongoing. We paid $8,000 for repairs and they found and repaired the leak that caused it.

      Thought we were done with it but Foremost sent a notice of cancellation because of the water leakage! They didn’t even pay the claim. And they didn’t even ask us if we had repaired it! This is really a terrible insurance company. Plus we now have other insurance which costs a little more than half of what we paid Foremost. And they are known to pay claims…unlike Foremost and Farmers.

  49. This company was Fraudulent and broke the law, but worst of all they left me and my family without insurance. Here is my story. This company offered me a fire insurance policy. The first month I paid this company to start my insurance. By month two they suspended my policy. I called and spoke to [Redacted] (by the way [Redacted] should be fired for lack of professionalism) [Redacted] told me that my fire insurance policy had been suspended because my roof was missing a few tiles. I asked [Redacted] what does my roof have to do with fire coverage. He said you have water damage coverage in with your fire coverage. I asked him how did that happen? I told him I record all my phone calls and I would review my calls to determine if I had asked for it. When I reviewed my calls I discovered that I asked him if there was any hidden fees. I also told him that all I wanted was fire coverage and nothing else. He told me he would work on it and never got back to me. [Redacted] made at least five mistakes while we were dealing with him. I asked him through e-mail to send the policy info he sent pictures of twitter and facebook images etc. He also never returned my phone calls. His boss [Redacted] should also have his license taken away. I told [Redacted] several times what [Redacted] was doing and he never corrected him and always passed me on to [Redacted] to work out the problems. I have spoke to an attorney and what your company did is illegal. You can’t offer a service get the money and then deny service. It’s called fraud. When I get my taxes I will have the $700 to file a small claim on this company and make them pay me back along with attorney fees and court costs. I also hope your company gets fined by the state of California. Your company does not care about keeping families safe you just care about the money. Your company is more than welcome to contact me about this issue!

  50. Very upset with foremost. I have had this insurance over 10 years and no claims over last 5 years…the claim I had a long time ago was 800.00. My bill increased from last year 407.00 dollars we are retired and this is unreasonable. Policy number [Redacted].
