Financial Strength

Encompass Insurance reviews are not as popular as bigger insurance companies like Safeco Insurance reviews or Travelers Insurance reviews. Our review contains more than Encompass Insurance complaints. This Encompass auto insurance review will go into more detail about insurance services at Encompass.

Through an interesting history, Encompass Insurance has emerged as a provider with unique options, tailored for a specific market. With their primary focus on personal insurance, the Encompass One policy is one to look at for those seeking to bundle auto and home.

Encompass Insurance Review and Summary

What is Encompass Insurance? The original company destined to become Encompass was founded in 1897 and eventually came under the CNA Financial banner. As CNA Financial moved more towards commercial lines, they sold their lines insurance business to the  Allstate Insurance Company. The sale took place in 1999, and in 2000 the company emerged as Encompass, a new Allstate subsidiary, offering re-branded products for a variety of personal insurance needs.

Encompass’s company headquarters is located in Northbrook, Illinois, and its products are sold in 39 states by a network of more than 2,000 independent agents.

Watch this Encompass video to see how the company has helped a customer.

The company’s approach to personal insurance is anchored by the package policy, known as Encompass One. Put in place for many years before that name, Encompass One covers both auto and home with one premium and one deductible. They also offer several stand-alone policy options, although they rarely sell these on their own.

Encompass tends to aim its products at more affluent customers with multiple assets to protect, as reflected by their product lineup.

Insurance Products

Encompass offers various personal insurance products, with their flagship being the Encompass One combined auto and home policy. Encompass, as a company, aims to insure multiple lines rather than selling individual policies. This is reflected in the way their products are presented.

To ensure you get the best Encompass insurance service, speak with Encompass insurance consultants to find the best deals for auto insurance and home insurance.

Encompass One

This package is available in three levels: Special, Deluxe, and Elite. Each of which has increased benefits and features.

  • The Special Package – the entry-level Encompass One policy includes replacement cost on the home, medical expenses coverage, no deductible glass repair, and several other features that come with the Encompass home and auto standard policies.
  • The Deluxe Package – builds on the basics and adds up to 200% replacement value for the home, Accident Forgiveness, extended living expenses benefits, and higher policy limits.
  • The Elite Package – the top package offering increased replacement cost coverage, Enhanced Accident Forgiveness, a Safe Driving Bonus, the highest coverage limits, and sewer and drain backup coverage for the home, among other features.

Encompass Car Insurance Reviews

Encompass auto insurance coverage offers a host of options and features. Coverage includes all of the basics and options for Accident Forgiveness, extended package coverage for loss of use, and replacement cost coverage.

Auto insurance policies include a waiver of deductible for glass-only repairs automatically, and roadside assistance is also available. The Safe Driving Bonus reduces your premium by 5% on renewal after 12 months with no tickets or accidents.

Other Vehicles

Encompass also writes insurance policies for a variety of different types of vehicles, including:

  • Motorcycles
  • RVs
  • Snowmobiles
  • Boats

Encompass Home Service Review

Encompass homeowner’s insurance policies are available at various levels of coverage and include structure coverage, personal property, and liability. Coverage is available for single-family detached homes, condos, and high-value home homes. Encompass also has multi-home options.

Renter’s Insurance is also available. Let’s not forget about Encompass flood insurance, which is important in areas that encounter flash flooding more frequently than other states in the United States.

Home Business Insurance

For people who have a home office, Encompass offers supplemental coverage for liability, business property, business income loss, and extra expenses coverage. Called HomeWork is a product that adds protection not found in a standard home insurance policy.

Additional Products

Encompass offers a few additional products, including Umbrella, Identity Theft, Lifestyle & Personal Liability coverage, Motorcycle coverage, etc.

Prices and Premiums

Encompass does not offer online quoting, which makes it difficult to compare their rates. Quotes can only be obtained through a local agent.

Because Encompass pushes their bundled Encompass One package policies, rates may be difficult to compare as they are all in one premium when quoting both auto and home. Encompass is an entirely agent-driven company, which means that rates tend to be somewhat higher due to the agent commissions they generally include.

Because Encompass’s market tends to be the more affluent, there does not seem to be an attempt to be seen as an affordable insurance company, and Encompass Insurance quotes will most likely reflect that.

Encompass Insurance Claims

Encompass promises a quick and smooth claims process that includes their TimeSaver referral service. This service is designed to get things repaired and replaced as quickly as possible. This includes repair shops, glass replacement, roadside assistance, rental cars, and emergency water mitigation.

Claims can be filed 24/7 by calling Encompass insurance phone number 1-800-588-7400. There is no Encompass Insurance login option to file a claim online. There is a separate phone number available for catastrophic claims.

The Encompass website offers a lot of clearly presented information on the claims process and what to expect, even explaining the process of subrogation, something many insurance customers often do not understand.

Encompass promises that they aim to call back within an impressive two hours when a claim is called in during business hours, and by the end of the next business day. Customers can use recommended repair services or opt to use the service of their choice.

Encompass Insurance Consumer Feedback

Encompass Insurance reviews from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) accredited company. The website gives the company an A+ rating. There are only 21 Encompass Insurance complaints recorded by the BBB against the company, seven of which were closed in 12 months. This is a really low number for a national insurance company.

Reviews online are mixed. Pissed Consumer registers 106 complaints, although a read-through of them indicates that some may be a result of common misconceptions and misunderstandings about policy limits and coverage. There are some complaints regarding rate increases, and several relating to the agent or broker rather than Encompass directly.

There are also several positive reviews to be found, which is a good sign in general since few people take the time to write a review when they are pleased with their service.

Encompass Insurance Company Ratings

Let’s look at Encompass Insurance Company ratings from popular financial strength and credit rating agencies.

Rating Company Grade Financial Outlook
A.M. Best A+ Stable
Fitch A+ Stable

What does the “A+” rating stand for? According to Atlas Magazine, the A.M. Best “A+” ratings mean the company has a stable financial outlook and has a superior ability to meet obligations to its customers.

Encompass Insurance vs. State Farm Insurance

Encompass Insurance has a connection to Allstate insurance. However, both companies are following behind State Farm—an insurance company with a higher market share. State Farm is also rated by most major financial strength and credit rating agencies.

On average, State Farm auto insurance rates are much cheaper than Encompass’ parent company, Allstate. Is it better? That’s up to the consumer.

Encompass Insurance Review: The Bottom Line

Buying Encompass Insurance might appeal to those who want the convenience of one policy to cover multiple different vehicles, and in some cases, multiple homes. However, those looking to get the best price on car insurance are likely to find a less expensive option elsewhere, especially using a traditional style of bundling with auto/home discounts.

Author: Eric StaufferI am a former insurance agent and banker turned consumer advocate. My priority is to help educate individuals and families about the different types of insurance they need, and assist them in finding the best place to get it.

  1. Encompass – you should be ashamed of yourselves!

You are canceling my son’s insurance policy because he had a TWO WEEK lapse in coverage for a vehicle that was inoperable!!!

His old car no longer ran and he was in the process of getting a new vehicle so WHY would he keep coverage on a $500 vehicle that was sitting in a driveway??!!

He is 22 years old, lives on his own and you decide after covering him for TWO MONTHS that you are canceling his insurance – and now we have to find a new insurance company…..What a crock!

I would NEVER do business with a company like this had I known this is how you operate.

I should turn you into the BBB.

  2. Encompass is the biggest ripoff company.

they try everything in the book not to pay.

they want you to take pictures of your damage then they give est off pic that doesn’t show all damage they should be shut down

  3. Nothing but trouble since day one. They made us paint water spots on gutters when we first got the policy ( did you read that? Water spots on gutters?? Lol). Also, every time renewal comes around it’s so confusing. They billed us, we paid it, then get a bill with a small add-on fee a week later. Log on to pay the $3.17 it says balance is zero!!! Bills come with different amounts (1.00 difference not sure why) and they even threatened to cancel us over 3.00 last year when they added a charge again AFTER we paid. So frustrating for consumers to deal with this kind of crap. They have a whole year before renewal comes each year and they haven’t a clue what they are doing when it’s time. We will gladly change when we can and say good riddance to these headaches we don’t need. ~ the Masons, Denton, Tx

  4. I bought a house and based on a good referral for Encompass, I chose them as my insurance carrier. Three months into my new policy a major wind and hail storm hit our area. I had the local roofing company come out to assess the damage to my roof. The roofing company recommended I contact my insurance carrier, that they felt I needed to have my roof repaired or replaced. Encompass sent an adjuster from another state, he did not even get on top of my roof to assess the damage. He reported back that I suffered minimal damage and recommended nothing to be done. The homes next door both had their roofs replaced by their insurance carriers. I replaced my roof and left Encompass and went with Erie the insurance carrier of my neighbors.

  5. Horrible! My vehicle was backed into at my work. Remind you I wasn’t in the vehicle. I saw the whole thing standing at the front of my work. That was May 30, 2018. I didn’t get a rental car until June 20. They only gave that to me for a week. My vehicle is still in the shop with $1000 damage. I had to pay myself for a rental car this week. And taking the car back today. Now I have no vehicle for work or to take my kids to the babysitter. ENCOMPASS is no good. This is not my insurance and won’t ever be!

  6. Encompass is not honest. They denied our case for moving the roof tiles because of the wind, do not work with this company. Their contractor said your tile was not installed very good and that is the reason for moving the tiles. This happened after a Tornado? We will change our home company insurance.

  7. Pricing themselves out of reach. Premiums went up, over $1200.per year, with NO claims, and we are both retired!

  8. Encompass insured my car and then my car and my house over twenty years ago. I haven’t made more than a handful of claims but all were handled appropriately and fairly. I suspect their costs are higher as their plans are available only through an agent who receives a commission. But service has been A+.

  9. Don’t expect a payout from them. One of their insured backed into my car in a parking lot. I was in the car but was stopped. They ruled that the fault was 50:50 and didn’t pay for any damages. If the other person admits the accident was his/her fault as was the case here get it on tape. Encompass is not honest. Don’t expect them to do the right thing.

    • The same thing just happened to me last week. I was told by the Encompass adjuster that I’m 15% responsible for not honking my horn fast enough to prevent the other driver from backing into my car.

Mind you this is not my insurance company, but the other driver who hit my car.

      • The driver that hit my car admitted that it was his fault for hitting my car while I was getting ready to exit the parking spot. The next day, the driver lied and told my agent that I was the one that hit the other driver’s car. They said it is my fault as I was the one who is parked. Ridiculous! I should’ve called the police.

  10. terrible – a water main that was owned by the city broke under our garage a few years ago. we had the adjuster from hell, she never would get back to us after we decided to use our own contractor. she never paid the bills from the storage company/ other vendors without me contacting her several times and i finally had to go to the president of the local encompass and my local agent ( her addition was wrong also , i even sent her the correct accounting with no response). she would also drive by the house and leave messages ( i see you haven’t done this etc..) and harassed us although everything was done on our part as it should have been done. it was a real nightmare.

  11. Terrible company. My wife was crashed into on the freeway ramp by one of their insurers and they charged us for 20% of the damages when it was 100% the insurers fault. After getting our car fixed they refused to send us a check for $1,600 that they owed us after we paid to get it fixed out of pocket. Terrible customer service and are very unreliable. Stay away from this company!

  12. After receiving substandard service from my current carrier (6 years with company and no claims), I shopped both my home and auto with a local independent agent who recommended Encompass. he discovered coverage errors on my auto policy, made recommendations for better options AND saved me over $300 per year. Having a local agent to me is also an added bonus and likely the reason for the previous coverage errors with my current company. First impressions are good with Encompass.

  13. if you have 2 wrecks and are at fault in each, ( roughly 5000 in car damage both times ) does anyone have an idea how much rates will hike. second one just occured – thinking of paying it out of pocket

  14. I am neither affluent nor rich, although I have a credit rating above 800. I previously had both auto and home coverage thru the “umbrella” company. After two go-rounds with them on rather inexpensive window claims, I went shopping thru my insurance agent. We came up with encompass and wrote both auto and home policies through them. Although the actual prices for each policy did not change, both policies had significant coverage increases on the order of triple the coverage for the same price as my previous policies .
So far, – almost a year – I have not had any claims so I don’t know about service. But, if the service is anything like the policy, I’m hooked !

  15. Encompass Ins. should be banned from doing business. Their client crashed into my home tearing a large hole in my house. This happened nearly three months ago and to this date they have done nothing but mislead me. Why can’t anything be done about their underhanded practices.

    • Why are you not going through your insurance agent ?
