Omni Insurance Group Summary
Omni was founded in 1986 is Atlanta, GA, and their headquarters remains there to this day. The company was created with the goal of offering affordable auto insurance with low down payments to help customers get the coverage they need to be legal on the road at budget-friendly rates.
Omni Insurance Group is a subsidiary of American Independent Companies, Inc. They sell auto insurance through independent agents, and do business in 15 states:
- South Carolina
Omni’s website is very limited, offering little information about the company other than a few basics. There is not an online quoting option available and is without any solid information on their background or services.
Omni Insurance writes auto insurance but offers little in the way of information on their website regarding their products.
As an insurer aimed at the budget insurance market, it’s likely that Omni writes a lot of bare bones basic policies. This usually means liability only meeting the state minimums for coverage, designed to ensure that drivers are in compliance with financial responsibility laws and little else.
The website does mention that they will tailor policies to each driver, which would indicate that they offer optional coverage as well, which most companies do. Again, there is no information regarding which options are available, so we can only guess that they offer the more basic options including comprehensive and collision.
The section of the website for agents lists options such as flexible policy terms and payment plans that are available, but does not go into details.
The one thing Omni does state clearly is that they offer a 30-day grace period for non-payment during which they will reinstate a policy without any loss of discounts or rate changes. This grace period does not extend to coverage – there is still a lapse and the company will not cover any claims that occur during that time period. The main benefit is that, unlike some companies, there is no penalty for a lapse.
Updates to the company website are sorely needed in order to help consumers doing research on their auto insurance options make an informed decision. The lack of information leads to the impression that most people who choose Omni do so because their choices are limited to what an agent is offering them, and not because they have researched and selected Omni as the best choice.
Omni doesn’t offer any online quoting services, and quotes are only available through agents.
Omni does advertise their policies as being affordable, with low down payments designed to make it easy to obtain insurance. This is a common message presented by non-standard insurance companies, but consumers should be aware of what that means.
In a nutshell, you can expect a bare-bones policy that will make you legally compliant and able to drive on state and federal roads. However, these limited policies generally provide little in the way of coverage, so any significant accident or at-fault incident can leave you responsible for a lot of the total cost.
Omni accepts claims over the phone via a 24-hour claims line in both English and Spanish, at 1-800-727-6664.
There is also a fax line for claims. This information can be found on the contact page of the website.
At the time of this review, the website appeared to either be having problems or to have been neglected. Most of the links to the various pages were not functional, and this includes the Claims Handling Info link.
On the contact page there is also a link to submit a claim online. This link was also not functional.
As a result of problems with the site, we are unable to provide a clear picture of Omni’s claims processing procedure or of their services. This in and of itself leaves a great deal of concern regarding how the company will handle claims, as it is difficult not to wonder how an insurance company can handle claims well when their own website is poorly designed and maintained.
Omni Insurance recently became BBB accredited, showing a 2015 date of accreditation. The BBB gives the company an A+ rating. There are 38 complaints on record against the company over the past three years, 19 of which were closed in the past 12 months.
There are a few complaints against the company on other sites, mainly surrounding claims either being denied or handled poorly. These complaints are not large in volume and generally cover the same issues that other insurance companies face in terms of claims issues. Pissed Consumer, for example, has 11 complaints against the company, all of which are in regards to claims issues.
There’s nothing either in the number of complaints or in the complaints themselves that raises major red flags regarding the company. Overall, Omni maintains a fairly clean reputation.
|Rating Company||Grade||Financial Outlook|
Omni Insurance is unlikely to offer either top-notch coverage or the best rates to most drivers; they are likely to be considered an option mainly for those are high-risk drivers and those who have had difficulty obtaining insurance. Even for this population, there are other non-standard insurers offering a stronger reputation; most drivers will likely do better elsewhere.
